You could only record one thing and watch another - no series link. If you had sky and managed to wire it up to record onto your VHS then you could not change the channel at all. No pause live tv - no rewinding because someone coughed during an important bit - no catch up or on demand - less channels obviously - rubbish quality but we still thought Dvd was amazing - much less space to record etc etc
I did not realise just how much i have to be grateful for. Consequently i wont really moan that there are not enough +1 channels or boo hoo no sky atlantic... it is basically amazing - glitches and all.
I am not a Luddite or technophobe just sometimes its nice to be reminded of how things were and how even then they were cool...

Nicely put. Remember the good old days when your video would eat the tape, or a tape would get jammed in the machine?

How infuriating was that? Or the crappy over watched tapes that needed tracking - remember tracking!!!!? Jiggery pause and having to put selotape over the the little square hole to record on tapes you were not meant to record over. LP to double the recording time... ah the halcion days of yesteryear.

I remember the young lad in the video rental shop that could not be bothered to wind the tapes back, so you watched the end of the film instead of the start

I remember how difficult it was to program the VCR to record. You were never sure you got it right. Now its one button. So much progress sometimes you forget.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
My TiVo EPG seems to be missing a lot of information. Usually I can go ahead 13 or 14 days and get full channel and programme information however my full listings only go up until Friday the 19th October. After this date only a limited selection of channels have full listings. There's nothing for any of the BBC or ITV channels. Channels like Film 4 simply have "Movie" listed in each time slot. I first noticed this on Monday night and thought ti would have been updated by now.
Anyone else having this problem? Why is it happening? When will it be fixed? Isn't around £3 of my monthly subscription going towards keeping the EPG up to date?

Virgin, TiVo or TMS are not to blame here. UK Terrestrial channels only issue 7-9 days of listings. I personally have never, ever witnessed 14 Days from the BBC.

You were supposed to rewind the tapes before returning them to the shop. There was a sign asking you to do so

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
I upgraded to a TiVo box last week, and up until Thursday night have been very happy with it. Then on Thursday evening I set it to record Homefront on ITV1 and Plane Crash on Channel 4, both at 2100 (9pm), so that I could watch Hunted live on BBC1. Just before 9pm a message came on my screen to say that I would have to move to another channel or it would not be able to record one of my programmes!!
I thought TiVo could allow you to watch one channel live whilst recording two others. I'm sure that's what it say in the blurb.
Anyone else had this problem? When I phoned customer services they just said it shouldn't happen and left it at that.
Luckily I managed to watch one of my programmes on Catch Up TV this morning.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
It doesn't always pick the correct tuner. All you have to do is let it change to record that show, then manually change channel and its should then use the third tuner.
Unless there was a suggestion being recorded?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Did you have another recording ending at 9pm (plus padding) maybe? Or as Stephen says, it may just be it decided to use the current live tuner. It can do this if you haven't pressed any buttons for an hour.
A Suggestion should never make your planned recordings fail.

Thanks for response and the poster above you. There were no other recordings set or padding from any other recording although the two I had set to record had a couple of minutes at the start.
Would a box reset be a good idea do you think?

Tivo can do that, but Tivo (unlike V+) can also record 3 channels at the same time. Personally, I record everything I watch, even if I think I may a watch a particular show live, as that way it reserves the tuners.

No, I doubt it. I'm sure there's a good explanation for what happened - we just need to find it.
How did you resolve the issue?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
We have a 2 minute before and after set for all recordings. Never had a problem until last Tuesday evening. Series link was recording (I think, The Glades and Haven at 9.00 PM). We were watching the darts on Sky Sports but had paused the live coverage to plate dinner. (We are peasants and sometimes use trays rather than sit at the dining table, can't see the TV from there). Tivo was scheduled to record another programme at 10.00PM. We had a pop up asking whether to clip or cancel one of the recordings in progress. My assumption is that, despite only having two red recording led's lit, the darts were in buffer. Not really an issue but made me think WTF for a moment. The missus asked why it did that, as there were only two tuners active (or as she put it "There's only two red lights on so why is it doing that?"). Am I correct or do I just tiptoe away?
