Yeah I gave up and went back to 7 yesterday. Shame though, I quite liked it. Some of the tiles stopped working too. I'd click on one and it would 'fold' forwards then a few seconds later it would disappear. Presumably these bugs will be ironed out and I'll probably get the Â£25 upgrade when it comes out.

Well I have the final version off dreamspark, not sure what version your using?

It has been revealed that Microsoft’s Windows 8 Pro edition will allow customers to downgrade to an older version of Windows if you aren’t entirely happy with the latest iteration. Users can elect to install Windows 7 or Windows Vista in place of the new OS although it’s worth pointing out that you’ll be without a boxed retail version should you go this route.

It seems unlikely that most buyers would want to downgrade but as Engadget points out, there are a few scenarios where having options would be plausible. Manufacturers could include a copy of Windows 7 along with new PC purchases in order to give shoppers more flexibility.

These same companies could also sell new computers with Windows 7 pre-installed in the event that some users wouldn’t be comfortable spending money on a system with an OS they are unfamiliar with. A dual-boot option would be the perfect scenario for PC users to learn Windows 8 at their own pace but it’s unlikely we will see this.

Downgrading to Windows 7 might also be an option in the event you are running mission-critical software that might not yet be fully compatible with Windows 8.

It’s worth pointing out that Windows XP and earlier operating systems aren’t included in the downgrade rights. Furthermore, the service is only offered on OEM copies of Windows 8 Pro – retail versions and other editions of Windows 8 need not apply. Windows 8 will be launching on October 26, 2012.

im running windows 8 pro and loving it

I am not sure if that helps me as i want to buy the upgrade version for Â£24.99 and everything i have read says i can't downgrade it to Windows 7 full version if i desire.

From a Google search Windows 8 Pro OEM downgrade rights are for a new computer bought with it on and even if i bought the OEM i still wouldn't need downgrade rights as i own the full version of Windows 7 so i could put that back on without a problem with the license.

Windows 8 Pro OEM is rumoured to cost around Â£100 4 times more than the upgrade, so i need to weigh up what i want to do if i don't want to lose my Windows 7 license. EDIT- Looks like i would need Windows 7 Pro to be able to do that which i don't have.

If there really are downgrade rights for an upgrade version of Windows 8 Pro to a full boxed version of Windows 7 i can't find it.

I am planning on buying an SSD as they're so cheap and trying out Windows 8 before i decide.

I think you are getting a bit confused.

Downgrade rights are different to reverting to a previously installed version of Windows

Downgrade rights allow you to uninstall the OEM version of Windows that came with your PC and install a different version but allows a licenced upgrade again back to the licenced version that came with the PC http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/lice...de_rights.aspx

As far as I read it, the only issue you would have with what you want to do is installing your W7 install on another computer at the same time as the upgraded W8 install. As long as you were doing it on the same machine, you can wipe W8 and reinstall W7 without breaking the licence

It is easy to get confused Ben as there is alot of incorrect information on the net about downgrading to Windows 7 after buying the upgrade, so yes i didn't understand downgrade rights.

As for my original question a few pages back your post on the matter http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35474417-post79.html is unforntunetly wrong as you can't downgrade anymore as the upgrade is said to kill the license from windows 7.

Yes it does - whilst you are using the upgraded W8 install that was validated by the W7 licence

Uninstall the W8 upgrade, and the W7 licence becomes valid again. For instance:

But i don't have an OEM version, i have the full boxed version and from what i have read now from various sites it says you can't downgrade back to it, this is why i and many others are finding it confusing.

Well I for one am going to try to either use a VL XP to upgrade to win 8 and leave the win 7 version on the laptop as is or to test how clever it is I will also try and use it upgrade a inactivated version of win 7 see if it lets it upgrade

All that it said was to qualify you had to buy a windows 7 version after July 2nd iirc they do not stipulate you have to use that version to upgrade as they know nothing about it anyway . They did not ask for key or any details

I need to see in writing from a few sources that i am able to downgrade the windows 8 upgrade to my full boxed version of windows 7.

As i said it is confusing and i was sure i saw something yesterday that said i couldn't do it but have lost the links.

Ignore what version you have, what matters is what the upgrade licence allows you to do.

So does that mean I can upgrade my oem version of windows 7 pro that I got through the microsoft site for Â£24.99

Or does this only apply to pc's bought in the shops and everyone else who owns windows 7 has to pay the full Â£100 price?
