Re: Where can I find out when my upload speed increases?

Would appear to me that people getting 120/12 are only actually getting around 11.44Mb upload in the config, with everything else in play I can see actual speeds being around 11 to 11.2Mb so why are VM undercutting the upload speeds so much? It's bad enough them only giving around 9.7Mb upload on their "10Mb" upload. seems the higher they go the larger the gap gets between what they state and what they actually allocate to you. Yet with download they give way over what they state, 120Mb is actually getting 126Mb in the config file.

I guess when 240Mb comes out (if they keep to the same pattern ie 30, 60, 120, 240) they will give you about 256Mb and the upload will be clipped around the edges again giving you about 22.88Mb instead of the 24Mb you'd expect on a 10:1 ratio.

Its configured for 133mb down and 12 up

Of course with overheads you get about 125 down and just over 11 up

Re: Where can I find out when my upload speed increases?

Not quite.

133000000 bps = just a tiny bit over 126.83Mbps (not 133)
12000000 bps = just a tiny bit over 11.44Mbps (not 12)

Virgin would like you to say 12000000 bps = 12Mbps but it's certainly not. It would have to be 12600000bps to even get a chance of hitting 12Mbps. Ideally it would need to be 13000000bps as a little extra fluff for the majority to get it.

I know when I had 30Mb the upload config was 3300000bps which translates to 3.14Mbps a lot more generous than they are being now with the higher tiers. It meant I always hit 3Mbps and usually over it.

Wrong.

For line speed:

133000000bps = 133000kbps = 133Mbps = 16.625MBps

Straightforward SI prefixes are used for data rates.

Available throughput is another matter of course...

Re: Where can I find out when my upload speed increases?

I just took another look via calculators elsewhere and you are right. I wonder why google's own calculator is so wrong then. If you google '133000000bps in Mbps' it will say just over 126.83Mbps as the answer.

I've always used google's calculator so never thought to look elsewhere.

Because they have so little upload capacity.

You realise 6 months ago some areas on VM were still stuck with 50Mbps down and 1.75Mbps up...
