Re: Virgin capping 100mb users@85mb?
Ironically I thought I was being capped at 85mb a couple of nights ago. Usually never have problems with getting full speed at any time of the day. I increased the number of connections in my usenet client to 30 (up from 20) and it just about crawled to 100mb. Wouldn't surprise me if they are trying out some new means of capping

I'm guessing the reference is because Paul M is on 50 and waiting on the doubling... Coffeeguy's 100/10 shows that was probably a price reduced 100 Mbps product. Of course both will be the same price.

Re: Virgin capping 100mb users@85mb?
Speedtest.net results don't mean anything, i never usually max out my connection speed on them. Saying that i just did:
Download a Torrent of Ubuntu or something and you should easily max out your connection.

Re: Virgin capping 100mb users@85mb?
How is your system configured?
I had the same problem after being upgraded to the 100mb connection, until I realized that the router I was using was rated at 100mb/s. I upgraded to a Gigabit router and Cat5e cables and now I can regularly achieve 100mb/s.
I seem to remember that all traffic across any Ethernet connection will introduce overheads (which will not be measured by the speed tests), reducing the quoted speed.
I am sure some of the more knowledgeable people on this site may be able to confirm this.

Re: Virgin capping 100mb users@85mb?
As the OP posted a speedtest result he must be comparing his speed by their usage (unless he says otherwise later in the thread)
As we should all know by now they can only ever give a snapshop of the speed and routing conditions to a single point on a single connection at any one time and that a multi connection download will always be a more accurate guage of capable speed where as the single connection can be effected by browser, bottlenecks on the route, load on the far server..etc..
