new Hub to be released?
I was reading on another forum tonight that some staff from Virgin have stated (not to customers on the phone, seems more like a private chat) that they are bringing out a new model that is made by Samsung which is meant to solve all the problems that we are having the Not So Super Hub.
Anyone heard anything or able to shed anymore light on it?
If its true I can't see Virgin rolling out new Hubs to every single customer, they will probably do it on a case by case basis I would think.

If they release another device no one will get one as an automatic replacement as the majority have no issues whatsoever with their connection and only exceptional cases would get a replacement.
As for it being any better if the is actually one due to be released it would have to have external antenna otherwise we would be in the same situation as with the Netgear device.
Also the interface would probably look very similar and clunky as it would in all likelihood be Virgin Media branded.
To have any faith in any device released it would have to be a stock device straight off a manufacturers shelf that is unlikely to ever happen as that would be an admission of failure with regards the present Superhub.

Re: new Hub to be released?
It'll be a nightmare when a new one comes out as most folk would want rid of the current hub due to poor wifi instability, range and speed. It will be the "I want a Samsung v+" all over again

Personally I would let anyone threatening to cancel unless they get a new device if one ever appears cancel as otherwise it will quickly dissolve into a mad rush for device that could be equally as bad considering the criteria they wanted for the tenders such as no external antenna as it may spoil the looks who cares if it works attitude.

Its called building to a price and with only a two internal antenna which are inside the back of the device, the device it is based on has eight antenna.
The modem side is fine.

not to be critical, that depends on the definition of fine. Yes, its fit for purpose, but has its issues

Mine and the majority work as they should very few people actually have issues with the Superhub as you cannot use the very few people who actually complain on forums as they are an extremely small minority, on average the are about 1000+ people complaining out of over 1 million + customers with the device and we do not see that many people posting on forums or calling technical support.
Wireless works for the majority and only people who expect more from the device actually complain as they are used to highend devices.
I have used it both as a wireless device and it performed adequately and most people would not even notice, but then I went back to my own router but both devices reached to my back garden table from my front bedroom office.

Re: new Hub to be released?
Agreed with the comment above. Mine works fine. We moved from another (Netgear) 802.11n router when we upgraded to 100mb last year and the SHUB has been fine. Never had an unexpected reboot, signal quality seems pretty good, etc.
I post this as a VERY heavy LAN and internet user. So much so that I've got a 40meter cat5e running from the back of the SHUB to a server in my office (a building at the end of the garden). I put the cable in as I didnt expect to get the wifi signal down there, but it gets a reasonably good signal (3/5 bars on the MacBook Air and the iPad).
Is it better than the Netgear one we had before? Nope. Is it any worse? Nope.
My SHUB is always under a heavy load, with a minimum of 15 devices connected at once, and usually around 25.

It works fine for the Majority and that is a Fact no if's or but's and the same can be said for the other piece of junk the VMNG300 as in reality it is little better especially as we now have area's with 6 downstreams and it was outdated before release plus we had many more issue calls with that device than Superhub calls, I was an original 50Mb support agent so I was there from the start so you cannot teach your grandmother to suck eggs.
Both present devices are junk and that will never change the only difference being is that you have never had a proper decent bit of kit on your desk such as a mainstream modem as Seph and myself have advocated for a long time.
The VMNG300 and Superhub are the Trabants and Lada's of the modem world and when you know no different they appear to be the equivalent of Rolls Royce's and Bentley's but you always forget that no matter how much Turtlewax you use you cannot polish a turd.

Ah Peter, you are making me so disillusioned about my VMNG300
However, I think I will stick with my Trabant until it gives up the ghost, I think it deserves it as so far it has given sterling service.
Maybe by the time it goes to Modem Heaven, the SH will be along side it

Both should be relegated but as above even if a replacement no one will get one just because they want one and to be honest I would wait a while unless it is a branded off the shelf device as otherwise you will probably be landed with an even bigger turkey.
My Superhub has worked perfectly since 9th February 2011 as have the majority on the network, I do find it amusing when you see post like yours praising the VMNG300 as no of you have been on the other side taking the calls over that device as more of them got replaced than most other modems but people hang onto them as if they are made of a precious metal.
Both the VMNG300 and the Superhub are junk compared to the devices tested by the company and the are posters on here who did run the trials but being staff cannot post about it on here.

is that why they chuck shubs around like confetti and send you a new shub for every fault rather than sending an engineer our first?

not really, they could just design it properly so it actually works like my Linksys router which has internal antennae

How come the regular hub was stable? Range was poor but least it doesn't reboot
