Been down since Sunday morning. Estimated fix showing as Thu 30 August (don't you believe it!).

AL1 to AL4 and HP2 & 3 postcodes affected.

tbh they are normally pretty good and getting stuff fixed pronto once it has been logged. I think they just like to give themselves a bit of room to move depending on the scale of it (size of area affected) and the kind of work involved. Don't be surprised if you still get intermittent connection loss over the next couple of days if they are still working on it.

Word filtering through is it was either vandalisum or attempted cable theft.

bummer, that will explain the extended timeline for repairs. Not knowing how much damage has occured they would need time to assess the extent of damage, order parts and make repairs etc.
