If celebrating the fact that some of our best and world-beating athletes are mixed race, black, born in other countries etc is jingoism then I shall wear the badge with pride

Agreed..I'd rather think of them as American or Welsh or Ethiopian rather than what colour or race they are.

I'll celebrate their colour or race when the Mail decides to call them 'Plastic Brits'.

Who cares what they think, if they had any clue they'd know the plastic brits are carrying on a tradition from our most successful games ever where any one from anywhere in the empire could compete for us, I thought they liked tradition and the old ways.

Re: The London 2012 Olympics: Current affairs discussion
So how should we end the Olympics?
Anything other than the entire stadium singing 'Always Look on The Bright Side of Life' will be a travesty IMO.

Have you been peeking?

The Spice Girls have been rehearsing for the Closing Ceremony at the London 2012 Olympics, with Geri Halliwell telling her bandmates how it should be done.
The band performed on top of five black cabs during the run-through for Sunday’s show.

Eric Idle was also photographed rehearsing and is expected to lead the crowds in a mass singalong of Always Look On The Bright Side of Life.

There is also a rumour that Madness and the Who will be performing..and I've heard that Coldplay and Muse will be there.
Let us hope for Russ's sake that Adele won't be..
I suspect that most is conjecture and we will find out on Sunday.

AWESOME!!!

Coldplay are doing a tour in America, they won't be there. Hopefully the Eric Idle thing is true though!

If they end it with Always Look On The Bright Side of Life I can die a happy man (hopefully still a long time from now ).

Re: The London 2012 Olympics: Current affairs discussion
Dear Mr. Beeb.
We understand that, with limited number of channels and red button options available on Freeview, you have to make some choices that may not be to everyone's liking. However, I'm sure that even the most ardent football fans will agree that you should not be showing a repeat of the football gold medal match when there are live gold medal matches (such as men's hockey) that you have chosen to ignore.
Thanks,
Mr. F.

Quality diving final with Tom Daley securing the Bronze.
This guy deserves it as he has worked so hard for it and he seems a great guy too.
