Has BBC ONE HD (108) always been this bad?

It may be that since the Olympics started and I am constantly watching/recording the channel that I have seen just how bad it is.

My TiVo seems to be having loads of trouble with this channel, intermittent pixelation, sound drop outs and all too frequent moments when the screen just blacks out with no sound for half a second (like the box is about to reboot but then the channel recovers). A reboot doesn't help either, it doesn't ruin the program but totally spoils them.

Is this a problem that I'm suffering alone with and I should speak to faults or is anyone else having similar problems?

Regular pixelation can sometimes be a sign of a problem with your signal levels. Give VM a call on 151 and advise them of the problem. They should be able to check the box remotely and if there is a problem they can arrange an engineer visit.

BBC ONE HD is far from perfect, but it's not normally that bad. The symptoms you describe sound like a potential fault (or at least something not quite adjusted properly) on your connection.

You need to report it so VM can look into it.

Re: Has BBC ONE HD (108) always been this bad?

I've been watching A LOT of the coverage on BBC 1 HD and have not noticed a single issue.

As stated above it is probably indicative of a fault and you should contact VM.

Re: Has BBC ONE HD (108) always been this bad?

Thanks for all the reply's, the speed of them and the general content has helped resolve my issues.

Turns out it was just my own personal shortcomings that we're the real problem. As I only noticed the problem on the one channel I never did the simple things of checking that the connections to the TiVo were secure. The coax was loose once tightened, problem gone!

Thanks again…

Yep. Well not with TV stuff anyway, but I remember once losing my temper because my desktop wasn't turning on. It wasn't until I had called someone out to look at it that I remembered I had switched the socket off because there had been a small water leak near the socket and I hadn't switched it back on. Cue a red face and a grovelling phone call to cancel the computer expert. He wasn't happy.

There's an embarrassingly long list of episodes I've been through that have all been down to a simple oversight. I've learned from these and try and cover every angle when troubleshooting.

The only problem with that is I took it too far last month and spent over two hours trying to configure an old router on my home network (my current one burnt out and I was using a spare) and assumed it was something I had missed. Turns out it was the 4 port switch that was a fault. One new router and 5 minutes later everything was up and running. It's not always the user that's to blame....

Channel 108 is the channel that the BBC have been using to broadcast in 3D throughout the olympics isn't it?

And not all the time, either. Just a daily highlights show and the opening and closing ceremonies.
