Re: The London 2012 Olympics: Sports discussion
Very good. 22 Golds. This is our best result since 1908 (which shouldn't count as so few countries took part). Sir Chris Hoy is now our greatest Olympiad. Shame we couldn't get all three today but Trott is only 20 and now has 2 golds already. Big future to come.

That was quite brilliant from Sir Chris Hoy. The reactions from his parents, especially his mum, were great!

Yep ,there was nice picture the BBC showed of Bradley Wiggins putting his gold medal around her neck when she was nine (i think) and that picture shows exactly how sports men and women can inspire young athletes

Commiserations to Vicky Pendleton, but as she said, if she was going to go down to anyone it was better that it was Anna Meares putting in a barnstorming performance of her own.
I get the impression VP was more relieved than anything ... Now she can enjoy getting married and having babies, which seems to be her next great ambition.

Indeed it must be such a relief to all athletes when they can finally have a life apart from their chosen sport ,they sacrifice so much as do their families .

What is nice though is that not only do they inspire but they will also probably start coaching the next generation and thereby giving back to the sport that has given them so much.

So wonderful to see one great Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave congratulate another truly great Olympian in Sir Chris Hoy.

Yes and Hoy said he felt Redgrave's 5 golds in successive games was the greatest achievement of all. They're both remarkable sportsmen in the very best sense of the word!
I have to say I'm extremely proud of the entire GB team and the way in which they've represented our nation on a global stage.

Very good run in the 800m by Andrew Osagie - another young hopeful for the future.

So we've exceeded the Chinese results, now we need to ensure we finish third!

Looking at the events to come its going to take a miracle for another country to beat us to 3rd now.
