Override provider for Virgin Cable

I've been using 18185 on Virgin landline for some time now quite happily, but lately have been unable to get a connection where the caller can hear me without very bad interference. I have reported fault to 18185, but not heard yet and not sure there will be a solution.

Is there an alternative to 18185?

I save my social calls for free weekend calls and use e-mail wherever possible, so only a very few calls per week and not enough to justify upgrading to Virgin unlimited calls at £8 per month.

In fact, my Virgin PAYG mobile charging at 8p a minute is cheaper than using Virgin Cable telephone for individual calls.

First Telecom offer an alternative service targetted at cable customers. No contract and no connection fees. Just disconnect the dialler box in periods where you normally get free calls from Virgin.

Re: Override provider for Virgin Cable

Have to say that I have very rarely (even recently) ever had any problems like that with 18185; though I do use it for less of my calls than I used to; only mobiles and 0845 numbers now.

Thanks I didn't know about First Telecom. Their prices are slightly higher than 18185 for normal calls (unfortunately 10 x higher for our occasional calls to Netherlands), but I will consider changing to them if 18185 problems occur again.

This week 2 calls using 18185 were OK so I'll see what happens.

18185 did reply to my fault reporting, to say that there was nothing wrong with their service, it could be a temporary fault, or my landline provider may be blocking or impeding the service.

Re: Override provider for Virgin Cable

18185 playing up again with calls losing audible connection, so am having to give it up.

Heard today for the first time about www.telesave.co.uk has anyone had any experience of it? Have come across it on the MSE website, but multiple posts saying how good it is have all come from the same person, so have doubts.

It asks for payment in advance to set up account and then costs of calls are deducted from account, so need to be sure if it is a legit company.

If so, it seems to be just what I'm looking for to deal short daytime calls on Virgin landline.

You can always sign up for Skype package or pay as you go.
I do that for my international calls rather than use VM

Re: Override provider for Virgin Cable

Thanks for info. I'll be choosing between Superline and Telesave when I get back from holiday.
