Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

why they just dont go to netgear get one good firmware from them?

I turn not be happy too, even with modem mode

I am in an area with many VM users around me and most of times my area is congested, even if lately had some good monitor graphs
with r30 had the chance to get an other channel after a reset
have reset the r36 more than 30 times ... nothing

Now I have stuck to congested channel and is nothing i can do
Olympics is soon and i bet here in london will be the most jitter

If happens and is not much i can do by changing a simple channel Maybe is a change to downgrade the service from £100 ... will save me at least half of that money, just to keep M TV and weekends calls

Thanks for reply
Of course but sometimes is useful for everyone to provide any tool or an option for some cases
Ex-ntl use to have it free in their option of the modem
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...surfboard.html
and VM to R30 still was available even by reset
i take it as they want us not have any control atoll but i have make an enquiry at VM forums so lets see what they will say

I am guessing this is the right place to post it, from VM forum

Super Hub R36 Firmware Rollout
[ New ]

Release Notes

Connection Information - If you're wondering where this has got to it's now available from the Router Status link in the top right hand corner of the login page while logged out.

Up to 144Mbps mode is now the default wireless setting - We've changed this as it has the potential to increase wireless range and throughput over a longer distance compared to 300Mbps mode. Our experience suggests that Up to 300 Mbps mode works best in uncongested wireless conditions or when the Super Hub is running on the 5Ghz frequency which is less well used. At very close range you're unlikely to see any difference between either setting, but as range increases you may see more signal drop outs under Up to 300 Mbps mode. We recommend you experiment with your settings to find the best balence between speed and range in your home.

OBSS - You may find if this wireless option is ticked while using 300Mbps mode you will see reduced wireless speed. This is because this mode is designed to make sure your router doesn't interfere with other wireless routers operating near you and so it automatically switches down to 144Mbps mode if it detects other networks or interference.

Greenfield Mode - This is a feature in 802.11n mode that can improve wireless efficiency by eliminating support for 802.11a/b/g devices. Only use this mode if you are only intending to use 802.11n capable wireless devices.

Known Issues

This is a list of issues we've identified in the R36 firmware and we're working towards fixing them in the next firmware update.

Google Chrome causes delayed response from admin page and/or loss of access to admin page - When using Google Chrome to access the Super Hub's admin page, there is an issue where the loading of the login page can be delayed by 5-15 seconds. Also if certain LAN chipsets are in use (e.g. NForce Gigabit LAN) then the admin page can completely fail to load and become unavailable to all clients until the Super Hub is power cycled. If you're seeing this issue you should use an alternate browser to access the admin page as a workaround.

All Security Modes available at 144 & 300 Mbps in Advanced UI - When Wireless Mode is set to 144Mbps or 300Mbps, the security modes WPA-PSK[TKIP] and WEP should not be available for selection and should be greyed out. However in the Advanced UI this is not the case and the security modes are available for selection and the selections can be applied. As a workaround these modes should not be selected while in 144Mbps or 300Mbps mode.

Router Status Network Log displays incorrect month - When comparing the Network Logs in the Advanced Settings, Logs, Network Log screen and the Router Status Network Log, the Router Status Network Log is incorrect in that the date month is displayed 1 month earlier than the actual month.

Pre and Post RS Error Counter showing incorrect information - This counter is currently showing incorrect information.

Device Connection Status, Session Download and Upload information displaying incorrectly - These counters are currently showing incorrect amounts for downloads and uploads. This information not used in any traffic management calculations they are there for your advice only.

DHCP Reservation page shows ethernet devices that have been disconnected - Wired devices do not delete themselves immediately from this list when disconnected but linger for some time, wireless devices do however.

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

Restoring to factory defaults still works for me on R36 to change channels.

Infact, recently, just taking the power lead out for a second and popping it back in has been resulting in me changing channels, the functionality of it is definately still there.

In that case you must be very unlucky as I set all mine up just fine. Only one issue - it doesn't retain a name which I set. Note the 4 reserved IPs in my lease table - I had no problems at all setting them up.

As I said - read the help.

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

Someone explain all of this channel (ID?) hopping and switching stuff? Is this where you basically reboot and pick up a new IP and/or a new port/area of your local network? Does it go to a different UBR/Cabinet or something or does it literally mean say channel 99 of 1000 and each channel can be more or less congested?

Also, what number of channels out of the possible 8 should be "locked" and also on upstream? I have 6 of 8 on down, and 1 on upload. I am on 50mb XXL and my router (in normal router mode) reports the below stats. Is all ok and power levels ok? I do get some jitter at times and the latency graphs from the TBB monitor aren't the best but connection seems fine otherwise.

Channel hopping is exactly the way it sounds. Restoring the hub to factory defaults makes it search through the list of available channels, and (the way it should work) you should be put onto the least congested one, though that isn't usually the case, it takes multiple reboots usually. BTW, this only refers to upstream, because all the channels that are available to you on the downstream are usually bonded. Each area has a different amount of channels, which is why some people are on 6 7 or 8, some may still be on 4 or 5.

The reason there is only 1 upstream channel is because upstream isn't yet bonded, hence the channel hopping to find the least congested channel. An area will usually have at least two channels.

Channel ID's are just ID's, they aren't an indication to how many channels are available to you.

Your IP and route through the network remains the same, it's just the channel which serves bandwidth which is different. There are differing amounts of users on each channel available to you, so one can be more congested than another.

Power level wise, you are fine, though you are on the upper end of fine. Any higher than +7 dBmV on the downstream and that's classed as out of spec.
