Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I think most people are seeing improvements.

This begs two questions..

There's a thread on the first - what has been done?

The second and more important one of course is will it last?

It's certainly taken away any remaining pangs of doubt that I should have given Openreach another chance - performance pretty much on a par with what I'd have got from Infinity apart from upstream at less money.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

The third question those who havent seen improvements (seems usual problem areas) will they get the improvements?

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

As always with VM (or any ISP for that matter) the chances of seeing consistent service across the country are slim to nil.

Yeah dont think will last...but hope i will be wrong
once i will get one more dsconnection channels will change to a congested one
my line is direct to exchange(adsl) so only option for fast internet is VM
if i had FTTC i will go for it
Had it before at old house, look the nice small modem...miss it

IS VM AND ****Is the superhuuuuuuub**** bleep bleep helloooo lol
Any one with lower latency specially early hours? (the blue is from my own use)
Wonder how will deploy during the day & if SH will reset it self again
Happiness did not stay long (that i was one of the lowest with latency)
I don't know if is the bad weather (maybe a float cabinet or because here in London (also is Sunday)everyone is at home due to heavy rain but jitter (tested with pingtest is gone 2-3 times more up (from 2 -6, is still ok level from what had 22 sometime ago)

adsl line from TT (direct to exchange)seems much clear even with heavy rain here(not in use priority traffic to VM)

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Turned Ping Monitor on about a month ago when I started noticing some occassional issues with video streaming and online multiplayer.

Its been like this almost every day since then.

Any suggestions for ways of improving it? Or am I completely at the mercy of VM's network?

(BTW even though I'm on 100Mb, I'm still using the 50MB modem and WNR2000 router as I heard bad things about the Superhub.)

I would start by turning of all devices on your lan, checking wireless is secure and rebooting your router because that doesnt look like its a VM side issue.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Wireless of course would be dependent on your new router, as for jitter, it's possible... Jitter seems rather strange with Virgin Media, as the Superhub was responsible for some of it, then all of a sudden upon release of the R36 firmware, Jitter was good for R36 users and then even normal users saw a better quality of connection.

Myself, being in R36, saw the same improvement, but it's gone backwards to square one for me... so you can't necessarily give an accurate answer to that. The best thing to do would be to test it under your own circumstances and if you see an improvement then great.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

If you got a new router then wireless would almost certainly improve... since moving to R36, router mode has been better for me then modem mode, but at the moment both are equally as poor for me so...

If you only want better wireless then id go for a new router, modem mode may perhaps improve jitter a little bit but now that im seeing people reporting different things i couldn't suggest anything at the moment.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

according to my tests with r30 firmware using modem mode(with out any router) may jitter go down 1-3 ms
Now if you use your own router with modem mode, jitter may go back up same as using superhub in router mode
Wireless it depence how good the new router will be
So my opinion is ... unless you really need the wireless don't get anything yet...wait hopefully by end of the week the new firmware should be out...and see how is going
