Thankfully those tunnel issues have been resolved now for business users. I have the 5 fixed IP option.

There was a new version of firmware about 2 months ago that fixed the tunnel drop issues and the problem with fragmenting packets through the L2TP tunnel. I'm now on V5.5.2R04T15-BU

I am hoping a variant of R36 comes to the business superhub as it seems the issues with jitter have improved with R36 from what I read here.

Anyway, as promised here are a few graphs showing VMNG300, R30 and R36 figures.

Reactivated superhub on R30, waiting for the new firmware, you can see right before the end of the graph the red spike and drop in latency when R36 was applied. After that it went into modem mode.

As you can see below, in modem mode i wasn't happy with the performance of the hub, so i spent the next little while trying to switch upstreams to see if that was the cause of the jitter i was receiving. Up till 4am is the VMNG300, after 4PM is the hub in router mode running R36.

and again on the 26th i switched upstreams again in modem mode from one to the other, no chance at all, very poor.

Suffice to say the majority of the time i've been in router mode, where i've been receiving good (for VM) service. The morning is router mode, the red block is me switching to modem mode, as the router mode decided it wasn't playing nice... but i returned to router mode and onto the less congested upstream as you can see here

And ever since then, i've had the following "good for VM" service

^^ R36 in combo (router) mode, with jitter between 0 and 2 on a more or less constant basis, flicks between 0 and 1 most of the time.

for comparison, VMNG300 before reactivation of SH, which for some reason went from this...

to this...

Either way, imho, R36 = good for the SH, lets just hope they continually improve it further and dont introduce more bugs.

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

Just had mine for my 60Mbps upgrade. I decided to give it a try as a hub. It came with R19 firmware!!! Mind you that's probably only a couple of general releases back on current.

Two things I'd almost forgotten...

The endless manual MAC typing and reboots as you add static IPs for port forwarding - why can't it work on the MAC - or maybe it actually does but it asks for the IP.

Just how poor the WiFi is.

Another thing I'd forgotten is the almost random usage stats the SH produces - has that been fixed in R36.

It is far easier to list the useful superhub items that do work in an acceptably conventional manner.

I'm struggling to think of any. But to be fair It has been a good while since I tried to use a superhub as a router.

If you mean the random data totals under device connection status. No it is still pretty flaky but they have acknowledged that there is an issue and they will look at what is causing it for a future firmware release.

Considering the many other faults and omissions there were and probably still will be in R36 I doubt it will ever be fixed if things are properly prioritised.

I just thought I'd give it a spin when it turned up - my favourite router (an old Buffalo running Tomato) probably doesn't have the grunt for 60Mbps plus it's only G WiFi, I also have a D-Link DIR-655 but the firmware on that is far from perfect. I'll wait and see how R36 performs before going to modem mode and probably the 655 as I really don't want to buy another router.

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

Kwik, it seems vastly improved for us on the R36 trial. No doubt there will be ever newer iterations of firmware but for now we are a great deal happier. We know it's a pile of carp but it's better than it was dude
