Adidas Ditches 'Slave Symbol Shoe' Plans
Adidas Ditches 'Slave Symbol Shoe' Plans
Adidas has cancelled plans to make a shoe with a shackle-like ankle cuff after critics said it resembled a symbol of slavery.
Quote:
The sportswear company tried to generate a buzz around the $350 (£223) trainers by posting a photo on its Facebook page.
"Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?" a caption read.
Named the JS Roundhouse Mid and made in collaboration with the fashion designer Jeremy Scott, the high-top shoe has an orange plastic cuff that goes around each ankle.
The photo has generated nearly 3,500 comments on the social networking site with many complaining that the design is offensive to descendants of slaves.

I'm more offended that Adidas think i am gullible enough to pay £223 on a pair of trainers with a cheap tacky plastic ankle bracelet

Exactly as l can go into a un-named big chain and get something just as good for £30.

Good trainers do cost but £223 is just having a laugh.

These don't even look good!
Anyway, why not just package the tag/cuff in the box with instructions on how to attach it to your shoe if you want them.

Whatever the peep-holes in the gimp mask allow him to see.
That's a fact by the way. If you disagree then it's just your opinion
Anyway £200+ for a pair of trainers is scandalous unless you were a professional sportsman and they were needed for the chosen sport. I do running and my Asics trainers cost £60, they're 'proper' running shoes. No need for anything more than that at my level.

Yeah, those trainers look like they were designed by the people that make supermarket shopping trolleys, a £1 slot wouldn't look out of place
