Re: The Pirate Bay is blocked (Discuss but do not post detail of how to get round it)
the most annoying thing about this block is i have to use double line mode now
oh well
windows 7 can be downloaded legally, here (you can check md5 and sha hash on msdn) but you have to purchase a license if you want to use it for more than 30 days

The warnings referred to were, I believe, with regard to copying, reselling, redistribution et. al. on DVD covers.

Wow, 35 pages and from reading it all it seems no one at all (here) downloads any thing illegal at all...
The silence is deafening...
Talk about one sided. It seems like you're all arguing amongst yourselves.

Re: The Pirate Bay is blocked (Discuss but do not post detail of how to get round it)
This whole thread proves 3 things ,
1 ,it's pointless trying to block sites like TPB ,
2 the copyright legislation is so complicated it ties itself up in knots and cannot be fully understood by anyone
3 the rights holders need to get into the 21st century

I would add a fourth
4. Most people don't fully understand their rights with regard to their ownership of CD's and DVD's.

It's not really that difficult. If you didn't pay for it you shouldn't have a copy of it*. Applies equally to CDs, DVDs and BDs
(Gifts excepted of course; before the pedants kick-off!)

Well if it's that simple then what about films like "It's A Wonderful Life" ,it went out of copyright for a brief period in 1974 but the tv companies where still required to pay royalties ,how is that ,and to whom did they pay the royalties ?

No idea. I was meaning in the context of this thread, not commercial broadcasting

Directly quoted from the font of all knowledge, not saying where though.
A person who relies too much on academic learning or who is concerned chiefly with insignificant detail.

Well in the context of this thread ,because the film was out of copyright and officially in the public domain it would have been perfectly legal to download it* wouldn't it ?
*had such a thing been possible back then
---------- Post added at 23:07 ---------- Previous post was at 22:52 ----------
Ok i'll put you out of your misery .No it wouldn't be legal simply (or not so simply)because it was a derivative work based on another story called The Greatest Gift which still had copyright attached to it .So if you think sorting all that out would be simple then you sir should be a copyright lawyer

In every copyright case one party loses even though both parties are represented by lawyers that specialise in copyright law.
Of course how much of this is due to corrupt judges ...
