I disagree. Tivo is good. Yes it lacks some features other PVR's can do but remeber Tivo is a US product and they dont use some of the features we do so it takes time to develop it for our needs

Of course, I have a different opinion

You have to remember that Tivo does far more than, say, Sky+ and therefore the interface has to take this into account. It may take some getting used to but I wouldn't be without it now

A larger hard drive wouldn't have improved the UI or the "lock up at midnight" problem. V+ was (and still is) as dumb a DVR as Sky+.

If you are the type of person that likes putting thumbs up and down by programmes (what happens if a brother and sister do opposites?) and wants things to record that you did not ask for ...

Of course, these two are related so if you don't enable auto-record of suggestions then who thumbs up/down what doesn't matter.

Some people on this forum find that a useful feature. More useful, I dare say, than reminders. But let's not go down that road again

That has never once happened to me in ten years. But then I tend to delete stuff after I've watched it and not leave anything un-watched for too long.

Also, I believe that V+ also has a similar feature but of course you like the V+ so not surprised you haven't mention that

It only becomes an issue if you let the hard drive get too full.

Which is fine. But many of us (around 500k now I believe) want something better.

Unless you go into manual settings (not necessary on V+) episodes over 10 of the same programme are deleted on my Tivo, however much you have recorded on the hard drive. I fail to see the logic of this default setting.

On the V+ I had loads and loads of daily episodes of Mash and never once was one deleted. On V+ if the hard drive got full, it would by default delete whatever progamme was the oldest recording, though I think there were other settings.

I never had any problem with the display on a V+. The Tivo seems just as slow (sometimes VERY slow). Presumably with development the V+ problem at midnight could be overcome

I agree to an extent, but on the other hand, you don't necessarily want/need your hard drive filling up with countless episodes of the same programme.

On V+ if the hard drive got full, it would by default delete whatever progamme was the oldest recording...

This is exactly how it works with Tivo too.

Not true, they are marked for deletion when room is needed. I've had 2 programmes on my TiVo marked for deletion for 4 weeks now

I can only repeat what I have already said. On my TiVo, unless I manually change the setting for each series, only 10 episodes are kept and the oldest is deleted irrespective of how much of the hard disc is used. I fail to understand the need for this default setting.

I will not repeat this anymore however many people accuse me of lying.

Your right it is the default setting that's why I change it on all my series links. There job jone no need to worry about it not recording shows now. The V+ has so many short comings there is no point in developing it further.

And if you re-boot the box they will become un-marked

Obviously doesn't have Netflix yet, and the one in the Apps folder is still the original one

Got it here. But although you are logged on it will not show videos from your playlists or favourites if they are set to private. Will work set to unlisted. So app not quite perfect.
