TiVo Not As Clever As It Should Be

Hi Guys,

Had TiVo since last July and to date been very happy with it and the intuitive nature of it rescheduling programmes to avoid clashes.

However in recent weeks, it seems to have lost it's intuitive nature. An example being the new season of True Blood on FX. It's shown on Sunday at 10pm and then repeated on Mon 9pm and Friday 11pm (I think I got the times right).

I set it up to record a series link and due to other scheduled recordings, it will clash on Sun and Mon but won't clash with anything Fri. Despite re-ordering my series links, ensuring it is 'new and rerun' etc, the TiVo seems to prefer to record the Sun showing and clip it than record it on a Fri when it wouldn't clash with anything.

Even if I set up the series link on the Fri showing of True Blood, it still defaults to the first showing on a Sun.

I also noticed this with the recent new Noel Fielding show on E4 when the 10pm showing clashed but it was repeated in the early hours of the following morning. Again the TiVo recorded the first showing clipped rather than recording the repeat showing in the early hours which wouldn't have clashed with anything.

I have even checked the 'upcoming showings' option and it's aware of the repeat showings, so it's not even a problem with the EPG or a missing link. The TiVo I first knew would have been intuitive enough to record the programme on a repeat if it could rather than record the first showing clipped.

It would appear the only way round would be to set the individual showings to record but this seems a farce when the whole basis on the TiVo platform is to take the hassle out of recordings as it will automatically find alternative showings if available and record them.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I am already annoyed with VM with the recent price rises, I don't want to fall out with TiVo now too as it should be excellent but VM seemingly don't wish to build on the basics.

Just go in to the settings and switch off "clip recordings" This will make TiVo record the later showing you want.

DF cheers for that, seems to have done the trick. Still would have thought it would reschedule to another available showing if it could rather than clipping but obviously not!

Thanks Superblade7

Re: TiVo Not As Clever As It Should Be

It depends how much it has to clip. The default is to clip up to 5 minutes, and only reschedule if it would have to clip more. It's always worked this way, but maybe since default padding was added it has become more apparent.

Re: TiVo Not As Clever As It Should Be

Spider, that probably explains it as I used to set manual padding at 2 mins before / 5 after like my old V+ so it probably never tried to clip anything previously. Like you say the new default value is 4 mins after so hence the clipping rather than rescheduling.

Cheers for you help too, can love my TiVo again now!
