Re: Diane Abbott apologises in 'race' row
Of all the times i have used the phrase "chip on the shoulder" only once has it referred to a person of the non white persuasion and she firmly deserved it. This is the problem there can be no sensitive debate on race in the uk because for everyone single person looking to debate the issue you have many more looking for something to be offended about. Main reason they do it is not because someone is being offensive or racist but to shut down the debate and make people scared to touch the subject for fear of being classed as racist.
This is why the likes of the bnp are gaining a little popularity it isn't because people really agree with most of their policies it is because they say what many feel but in a far more extreme way then the vast majority would ever say or do. All the technological advance we have made and yet in this day and age we still allow our intellects to be dragged down to this sort of level very sad i think.

She gets away with it yet again. No surprises there.

Don't worry. her and her chip won't get away with it the next time.
the next one she does would even shock Bernard Manning.

Re: Diane Abbott apologises in 'race' row
Mind you, in a way she's actually correct. The British Empire in common with just about every other empire did use a divide and rule policy to keep the different tribes warring between themselves rather than gang up on their rulers. It's as old as Empire and has always worked rather well.

...which would be a valid point if her tweet had been in the past tense. 140 characters or not she had enough space left to make that point if it's what she was really saying.

If that's what was being discussed at the time then she would have been correct .Unfortunately she used that comment in a modern context aimed at white people today in a discussion about useless "black community leaders"

I think she's doing a great job, and should stay where she is, or perhaps be promoted a more high profile position.....
