It's good that the military industrial complex is being cut though, a massive corporate welfare scheme.

It'll be interesting to find out where Obama's axe is going to fall and which services, programmes etc. are going to bear the brunt.

Re: Will the world be a safer place....
I think you may find that the large defence companies will be contributing to the GOP.....
You may find this and this and this informative regarding 2012 donations....

But not under Alan Fry's 'plan'.....
Presumably the Democrats don't derive much cash support from the military then or Obama's playing a dangerous game.
Could a diminished and possibly less confident US military machine with fewer options actually be more dangerous to world peace than what we have now? Cornered rat scenario?

Well until the next resource that becomes finite that is.

Based on looking at what companies have given to Obama, Apple is going to have a hard time after 2012!

Yes, that's right - Obama will stop everyone buying Apple products...

Well, considering that most major corporates, including MS and Google, give to both parties, your proposition may be sub-optimal....

Re: Will the world be a safer place....
Sorry but as far as i am concerned this is just the usual obama rhetoric that won't actually come to anything near what he says in practice. Also is anyone stupid enough to believe they will alter their focus on the oil at all. We're also expected to believe that all of a sudden they are no longer bothered about iran yeah ok lol.
I think there will be a reduction in naval forces in the gulf to make this rhetoric appear legit hoping the iranians are stupid enough to do something that hands the US an excuse. Level of cuts obama is talking about would mean the closure of many domestic military installations that would be catastrophic to local economies. It's exactly what you do in an election year hit tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of american voters.
Thats also putting aside the damage being seen to hit military hard will to voter perception of obama. Americans may not always be happy with how their politicians use the military but they have very strong support for their forces.

To honest this defence cuts will not happen because his rivals control the lower house of congress, they would be strongly aganst defence cuts, not to mention lobbying by defence companies like Lockheed Martin and Boeing!
