And the 1TB box is £49.95 PLUS £49.95 for Installation which comes to £99.90.

Also in the small print - Additional box fee of £6.50 per month may apply.

Read very carefully before you buy.
The free installation offer period ended. The new price for all paid installations is £49.95. There is no activation fee any more for the 500gb TiVo.

This is quite silly and very naughty advertising from Virgin. Why don't companies just be truthful upfront and say the amount is X (including install fee's etc).

I phoned up about a week ago to ask how much Tivo would be. After speaking to two Indian gentlemen they told me it would be £79 for a Tivo box, they would move my V+ for free and no extra fee (apart from the £3).

This new and improved price means I pay £20 more for an install and potentially have to pay £6.50 a month more.

From the new deals it looks like the end of the V+ box, so TiVo is the only PVR you can take now if you don't already have one.

Are the VIP packages the only deals where you don't have to pay £3.00 for the TiVo PVR?

The way Virgin keep dropping the price of TiVo, it won't be long until they are paying people on TV XL £3.00 per month to take the service

In all seriousness I can't see the £3.00 charge lasting too long. TiVo is no longer a premium product. As of today they are giving 500Gb boxes away to new customers for no charge whatsoever. Free box, free installation. Was the V+ box ever given away so cheaply?

Re: Is the TiVo charge now £3 per month on all TV packs?

Just tried http://shop.virginmedia.com/existing...ox-prices.html and can't see how you can select the 1TB Tivo ??

---------- Post added at 09:10 ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 ----------

Hmm, just phoned up, the nice Indian lady said I can move my existing V+ box but that means I then pay £99 install fee not £49 (I want the 1TB box)

In the text (http://shop.virginmedia.com/existing...x-upgrade.html) it says

Quote:
Existing customers: Irrespective of the number of set-top boxes you already have, for every new sale - If you take a 500GB TiVo box as your first box, the activation fee will be waived; if you take a 1TB TiVo box as your first box, we will reduce the activation fee to £49.95
But she insisted it was £99 as my existing V+ box would mean the Tivo was a second box. Really confused now

Also, she said it would be £6.50 extra for a second box, until I said someone else said I could have it for free, then she said they could do it without the extra monthly fee.

Really not very clear from Virgin media, quite annoying really.

The 1TB box is £49.95 activation and £49.95 installation so will cost you £99.90

It's the 500GB box that costs £0 activation and £49.95 installation

Thanks Ben, I was getting confused with the free activation/installation prices. I wonder where the £79 price I got a week or so came from?

Yes. They've just re-jigged their marketing to emphasise the Free TiVo but overall nothing has really changed. Most new customers were getting a much better deal on V+ or TiVo last month - £49.95 activation, free installation, 6 months half price TV and a £30 to £60 credit on their first bill.

The £3 charge is now immaterial for any new customer that wants a DVR since the only option is TiVo. The best way forward would be to gradually increase the cost of TV XL with a V box, V HD box or V+ until its matches the TiVo price thus allowing existing customers to upgrade to TiVo at no additional monthly cost.

This could be one Virgin Media idea's to migrate everyone to Tivo or they could still scrap the £ 3 per month for tivo.
Quote:
Cindy Rose stated "However, we intend to migrate our entire television customer base over to TiVo as our standard product within a matter of years, and not many years. That means, undoubtedly, we will course-correct, refine and review packaging and pricing decisions as we go to make that happen.”

Re: Is the TiVo charge now £3 per month on all TV packs?

lol at saying installations are free but yet they're charging an 'activation' fee.. what's the difference exactly? could I choose to have a TiVo etc installed and have it 'activated' in a few months time? I doubt it. More smoke and mirrors from a large corporate.
