Are you sure about that, the chairman of BSkyB is James Murdoch and they share resources and technology with other News Corp Companies

Yes but that does not make them Murdoch's lapdog's as several other media companies share resources as well.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

I think there is often a tendency to think that because you want something, so must everybody else, and you therefore wrongly assume you are in a majority. Recent requests for reminders on Tivo and Sky Atlantic from people who can't understand why Virgin aren't giving their customers "what they all want" underline this fact. The truth its that Virgin are a business and will understand that if they want to make money then they do actually need to give the majority of their customers what they want at a price they want to pay for it. Sorry to say this to those of you who think 3d is the future, but, since recent reports suggest that it will take until 2016 for even just a third of households to have a 3d set, and even then only half will regularly watch 3d content, this is serious "minority" stuff. Whilst Virgin are giving a nod in the right direction with some decent on demand stuff, hopes of getting Sky 3d-given that there isn't a strong enough demand for even Sky Atlantic to be worth the asking price-are pie in the sky.

Hence why the majority of pay TV subscribers choose Sky.

I think another factor could be the general lack of coverage from Virgin in the UK.

Virgin only cover about 20% of Scotland and 20% of Wales. There's also noticeable gaps throughout England. If Virgin had complete UK coverage, offering their current TV deals and broadband speeds would there still be such a large majority choosing SKY?

Exactly if Virgin had full coverage of the UK l suspect many many more customers would pick them instead of SKY.

Obviously I live in a cable area, but I would say that Sky have a good 50% of the pay TV in my area going by the number of satellite dishes. Vm will also be facing BT infinity in the future and should this become available to Sky VM would not have the BB advantage they have now.

A valid point Chad , it will be interesting to see the numbers when Sky have a fibre optic product up and running , however I do agree coverage is an issue. My main gripe with VM was the wait for new channels to arrive , at the moment I'm enjoying the Texas v California game on ESPNA HD something I couldn't do on VM.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

I don't want to sound like a snob, and please nobody take offence, but where I live the poorer areas are absolutely littered with SKY dishes. It's a trend which repeats itself in other local towns and cities. I have noticed however that the dishes tend to disappear when you enter more affluent areas where Virgin tends to dominate.

I remember when SKY first came out, having a dish was a badge of honour. It showed you could afford premium TV whilst others in your street couldn't. Is this still the same trend today? Do Virgin have more rigorous credit checks than SKY? In fact The SKY stall in The Howgate shopping centre in Falkirk proudly displays a sign stating "NO Credit Checks".

Just to clarify my Mum and Dad still have SKY, my mother and father-in-law have SKY and I almost joined them myself 3 months ago. I'm not looking down my nose at people with SKY, but I think there are many factors why SKY have almost double the customers Virgin do. It's more than just choice of channels.

I totally agree. It's the biggest gripe I have with them too. Whilst I eventually got Box Nation, my wife still goes on about SKY Atlantic! SKY are truly innovators when it comes to TV. Virgin at times seem happy with the scraps SKY throw their way. Well maybe I'm being a little harsh but some more SKY HD channels would be great.
