50 to 100mb

Hello.

I have an engineer coming over on Thursday and I've been doing some background reading.

I read that the VMNG300 is far superior to the Virgin Media Super Hub ( I currently have the super hub VMDG480) for 100mb is there any truth in this? Would they change my super hub and why is the engineer coming out surely they can upgrade me over the phone.

A bit nervous.

Re: 50 to 100mb

Just to point out the chap already has a Super Hub.

The Super Hub will be fine for 100Mb, its modem mode works well.

Re: 50 to 100mb

in theory it should work fine in modem mode buuuuuuuuuuuuut, if you have already got a VMNG300 you are defo allowed to keep it if you want to and you can be upgraded over the phone without having an engineer to come out. He is only coming out to give you the shub.

Re: 50 to 100mb

pants, I was getting ahead of myself Sorry dude but there is zero chance of you getting a VMNG300 but they absolutely 100% should have upgraded you over the phone because you have already got a shub. Ring them back because the engineer visit is pointless.

In practice it does work fine in modem mode. I once advocated keeping the VMNG300, but given that it was reported to be working well and also future-proofed you for 8 channels and up to 400mb I didn't see the point of keeping the VMNG300.

However, less people would recommend the SH as a router right now. So if you do go for the SH make sure you have a gigabit router with at least 400Mb WAN to LAN throughput.
