All broadband tiers, including 50 and 100Mbit are also subject ot the P2P and Newsgroup management

Re: Is 50Mb still Traffic management free but for the upload
Thanks for the reply
I became aware of the P2P and Newsgroup management recently after reading a post on the VM forum, and reading a page on the VM site.
I was more wondering is that chart right on VM site about downstream not being capped in any other way, and only cap upstream in the evening if you upload over 6000MB.

Don't forget to mention Virginmedia is currently the UK's worst ISP for gaming. An they have been banned from advertising themselves as "Good for gamers".

I game on the PC and Xbox 360 it is fine for me, good speed, low pings and low jitter.
I have been on 50Mb before, so I know what it is like, just wanted to make sure of the traffic management.
I have been VM for sometime now (3+ years) and have never had any problems with gaming.
But if you can compare that to what ADSL offer me. When I had it, it would not connect at all.

Hmm yes, that would be why I get a horrible ping of 10ms with 1ms jitter, and why I'm always getting a completely unacceptable 25ms ping in WoW.

Re: Is 50Mb still Traffic management free but for the upload
VM cable performance depends a lot on where you live.
If you live near me you might find yourself getting this sort of thing on a 50Mbps connection - enough for me to give up on VM and downgrade to 10Mbps while deciding whether to go back to ADSL or wait for VDSL to be available to me.
So far 10Mbps has performed pretty much what you'd hope but jitter is still poor as it's still on the oversubscribed DOCSIS 3 channels my 50Mbps was on.
This is my current 10Mbps TBB chart....

Re: Is 50Mb still Traffic management free but for the upload
I ended up going for 100Mb, haven't found a speedtest yet that gets over 75Mb, but I have tested by downloading a Linux OS for Newsgroups this morning and got full speed.

Re: Is 50Mb still Traffic management free but for the upload
As I said - it depends where you live. For most people on cable I'm sure it's fine - it was for me for over a year but if you are unlucky it can become dire beyond belief and VM seem to attach zero priority to sorting those problems out.
IMO jitter will always be an issue on cable and the low capacity of the local pipes make it very susceptible to congestion problems - all you can hope for is that you don't want to use it while the local torrent freak is topping up his collection.

Re: Is 50Mb still Traffic management free but for the upload
kwikbreaks what I am finding odd is that now jitter on my connection is pretty good, no matter what time of day and what day of the week. Even on the superhub.
Yet downstream performance is all over the place and at peak its barely at half speed if that. Whilst a month and especially 2 months ago my jitter was all over the place but download speeds were pretty stable. Whenever my download speeds drop, sometimes my tbb graph looks completely normal, other times it shows an increase in latency but not huge amounts.
