"Several" people were killed and up to 35 injured in a 27-vehicle crash on the M5 near Taunton, Somerset, police say.
Quote:
Emergency crews said the cause of the crash was not clear, but there had been reports of heavy rain and fog.
Quote:
Paul Slaven, of Devon and Somerset Fire Service, said crews were "damping down" at the scene of the crash, which he said was "the worst road traffic collision anyone can remember".

Awful. It's a nasty bit of road in good weather.

Re: M5 shut as 'several people' die in 27-vehicle crash

My sympathies go with the families of the deceased people.

Reports are saying that this tragic accident was caused by heavy rain and fog, l have been driving for the past twenty years and to me the speed limit on motorways should NOT have been increased, we still have nutters on the road that will think they are jack the lad and speed, With Juggernauts, its a dangerous game when a any vehicles speed and tries to 'jump' the lorry, as they can easily jackknife cause accidents.

I always remember several years ago driving back from Cambridge in thick fog, and l was doing about 35 miles an hour, l still had vehicles whizzing past me.

I also feel that traffic cameras should be on motorways for speeders.

RIP

Re: M5 shut as 'several people' die in 27-vehicle crash

Very sad new indeed. My condolences to the families of all those involved.
People never learn until its too late that they have to drive to the road and weather conditions and leave plenty of room from the vehicle in front.! Too many people trying to get somewhere quicker than anyone else.
I had a disabled minibus overtake me and two other cars yesterday on my way home from work in the face of oncoming traffic. He then got stuck behind someone else! What was the point in what he did.! ?

Yes exactly as we were in a 30mph zone and several drivers surged past us and were at least doing 50 mph and by doing that they are putting motorists who drive safely and to the weather conditions at risk by their madness.

just seen this not been well its horrific RIP those who died. Hope those who hurt full recovery.

Just done video catchup some stupid woman going on about speed silly girl how they wont support 80mph. Felt like wanted give hear good hiding for her insensitivty. We dont know why it happened police will do investigation.

Apparantly conditions was fog, wet road fireworks going off. Would hasten to say thats tricky driving conditions. That fire must been horrific there was car had stopped in time yet nowhere near vehicles it was shell.

So saddening hope they got out safely. So even safe drivers got caught up I hated it when you get some stupid copper going about speeds too close basically accusing everyone of stupidity before investigations. At least we not seen this this time. Even if the find this the cause not all would been stupid but might been hit pushed into it. It must be very hurtful to families the way they act at times trying preach the gospel of driving.

So hope people take back seat on trying pre-empt what happened.

A stupid copper going on about speeds? too close ?. Speeds and too close are the main factors with accidents!, that and aggressive driving.
