Not really a 'new' HD channel from the Beeb, is it? They have 2 HD channels now and will have 2 HD channels once BBC 2 HD gets up and running.
I agree.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Presumably though, existing customers with a faulty V+ Box can still get a replacement so I wonder if these are still available as upgrades to existing V Box customers too. As an XL customer I would not expect to have to pay an additional monthly fee plus an upfront cost for a TiVo box just to have the HD and PVR functionality of a V+ Box.

This is the part I was referring too can they ?

Ben or Digital Fanatic should be able to answer that question.

No it's a new channel.
  • BBC HD shows HD content from all BBC channels.
  • BBC 2 HD is a HD simcast of BBC2.

It's a BBC Two simcast, where would it find time to show other content??

The link you posted only mentions BBC Two HD once:

Launch a single version, with no variations in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, of BBC Two in HD in 2012 to replace the current BBC HD channel. Nations variations would continue in SD

BBC Four

BBC Four would play a more complementary role to BBC Two
More programming in areas such as live music, both classical and pop, arts and culture, some of which would transfer from BBC Two to BBC Four
Factual programmes would generally focus on more specialist subjects with other factual programmes shown on BBC Two
Continue to provide new comedy and entertainment
Reduce investment in original UK drama, although the type of drama that is currently made by BBC Four might feature on BBC Two. BBC Four would continue to show the best of foreign language drama and film from across the world

100% Agree

BBC Four programmes are going to replace original daytime programming on BBC2 so they'll be shown in HD.

So changing the name and completely changing the content and role of the channel makes it the same channel?

Yes I'm not saying it won't, I'm just saying it's a simcast, EG. It shows what's on BBC Two at the same time, like BBC One HD.

BBC ONE HD will also show shows from other BBC channels

BBC One

A small reduction in the number of new factual, comedy or entertainment programmes or feature films broadcast after the 10 o’clock news. Replaced by repeat programmes from BBC One and other channels; peak-time repeats would increase by around one per cent overall, but would remain below 10 per cent
