Film 4 HD problem?

Is there a known problem with Film 4 HD at the moment? For the last few days it has not been working for me. There is just a message on the screen saying "There is a problem with the signal on this channel. If you keep getting this message call us..." or words to that effect. Before I phone I would like to know if it's just me or widespread? The SD channel works fine.

Re: Film 4 HD problem?

Mine is working at the moment, but I have had intermittent problems with my HD channels recently so I would hold off till tomorrow and see if the problem continues, also check other HD channels. Mine has been fine for 6 days now so I think its probably some upgrading which is causing interference.

You really do need to ring. (When you do, they may tell you to call back in 24 hours anyway, so the sooner you call the sooner it'll be fixed)

Re: Film 4 HD problem?

All sorted now. A 10 minute call to their rip-off 0845 number and some voodoo magic from their end fixed it.

Re: Film 4 HD problem?

No, the saga continues.

It worked for a couple of days and then stopped again. I phoned Technical Support and after some checks was told the signal levels were too low on that channel so an engineer visit would be required. In the meantime she did the remote voodoo again to get the channel back but said to expect it to go again in a couple of days. Which it did.

The engineer came last Saturday and after checking told me it was my fault for selecting the channel by the wrong method. Apparently it only works if navigate the EPG to it! He did say there would be a fix for this at 2am on 24th November.

I told him that the TS lady had said the signal was too low so he agreed to check only to come to the conclusion that they are in fact too high! He put an attenuator thingy on the back of my box (which now means it sticks out too far from the wall and looks untidy) to reduce the signal and left me with it working.

Two days later it stopped working again.

Re: Film 4 HD problem?

To continue the saga, I was without Film 4 HD until the Tivo box was updated last week - that brought it back for a whole day.

I had 2 separate engineer visits yesterday. The first swapped the box to no avail. The second swapped it for a confirmed working box which worked. He then put my new box back and it worked so he left. This box worked for the rest of yesterday but would not today.

This evening I sat down to watch Frozen Planet which I had recorded last Wednesday only to realise that it was on my old box. Never mind I thought, I'll watch it on Catch Up. I found the programme in HD and started to view it only to find it was unwatchable. The picture kept freezing and buffering.

I ended up watching it on my Mac which is plugged into my TV. The 6Mb O2 broadband easily coped with the HD feed.

I've got VM broadband being installed next week - am I making a big mistake?

PS. Film 4 HD was great on the V+ box I had last year.
