How Many V+ / V+HD Boxes can you have?

Hi all!

My parents are looking at digital reception alternatives now as their analogue signal has just been switched off.

Whilst looking at the options (including four TV replacements ) - they are exploring the possibility of keeping the TVs for now and getting V+ V+HD boxes.

How many can you have in one installation - and of what combination of V+ / V+HD boxes?

Is there a Virgin Media equivalent of Sky Multiroom?

Thanks!

Officially it's normally 3 boxes plus a Broadband modem or 4 boxes without broadband, but I have seen accounts with more than that

The combination of boxes doesn't matter to how many you can have

Re: How Many V+ / V+HD Boxes can you have?

Hi Ben

Thanks for the reply

As I understand it - each STB / modem requires the cable to be split via a splitter which reduces the signal strength - correct? However I have seen powered splitters - like this one on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-WAY-POWE...d#ht_500wt_942

Do VM install these to maintain the signal strength?

Also what would be the cost be to say have a new installation of two V+HD boxes to start with? They currently have 10Mb B/B & the phone.

Thanks!

Presumably you could cut a free installation deal (as your an existing customer) so it should only be £49.95 per box.

VM will install powered splitters (HDUs) if required, but usually they wouldn't be needed for 4 boxes. Simply order whatever boxes you need and let the installer worry about signal strength.

You'd be better off getting some 500GB TiVo boxes which are the same upfront cost as the V+ and are much better (although that is more a matter of opinion I think)!

Hmmm - hadn't looked at TiVo before...

So would I be correct in syaing all of the above would apply - except the monthly charge would be £3 per box instead of £5?

Also - does it do all of the V+HD basics like catch up on demand - record two programs whilst watching a third?

Thanks everyone

Re: How Many V+ / V+HD Boxes can you have?

True about TiVo: they work out about the same as the V+ HD boxes in terms of installation/ongoing cost, and you get more features with higher HDD capacity. Who knows, maybe if you get three or four boxes installed in one hit maybe they'll only do one installation charge... depends on your standing as a customer and what you can negotiate with them. Bear in mind that the minimum package for TiVo is M+ though... personally I've found that with the series link and wishlist options that's actually more than enough TV for me to watch.

|I've been told you can have pretty much as many boxes as you're willing to pay for. The stronger the signal strength going into your premises, the more passive splitting can be done.

Re: How Many V+ / V+HD Boxes can you have?

One v+ is £49 the 2nd 3rd and 4th is £99. Cheaper to get tivos.

Technically the amount of boxes are limitless, for example I could get a 4way splitter and chuck 4 hdus on and get 16 boxes running, not that I would lol. I've seen houses with 3 drop cables too

I wonder how long before the V+ product will be discontinued to new customers ?

I can't see Virgin stopping V+HD installs until TiVo gets the Red Button stuff
