Yup. Not forgetting that Bergkamp was a recommendation to Dein from Wenger whereas Keown and Parlour were not regular starters.
It's one of the biggest myths going that Wenger's previous successes were because of the players inherited from Graham, only 2 members of the previous squad were in the squad and neither were in the starting 11. It gets parroted out all the time, even by Arsenal fans who should really know better.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Wenger had a decent spine to work with, those individuals responded to the bosses ways but also knew they had to have steel about them to succeed, it was a natural reflex when you had such a good mix. Arsene needs to get tough with these current players. his excuse is that he doesn't want to damage their confidence or ego seeing as thats big now days. 2009 Liverpool v Arsenal, Wenger went mental at half time.. of all people Arshavin stood up to be counted in the second half, the whole squad responded we won 2-1.
Pat Rice normally does all the shouting while Wenger uses his brain but he needs to understand these players need him to be vocal and stern. thats my take on it anyway.

Like they needed any recommendation to sign some one like Bergkamp, if that's true they might as well bin all the trophies they won in the early '90's as it'd mean they didn't have a clue.

Well Graham had already left Arsenal when Bergkamp came, it was Dein who did the deal.

Yes and are you really saying that his legacy was to leave a club that couldn't see how good a player Bergkamp was. I think Bruce Rioch would dispute that or are you implying that he was undermind within weeks of taking the job by having some pen pusher signing the players for him.

My mistake. It was Patrick Viera whom Wenger requested be signed before he took the position of manager. Not Bergkamp. Although Dein had sought Wenger's advice on Bergkamp it was not a decision he made. (Wenger and Dein had started a close relationship a few years prior to him taking over at Arsenal.)
I think it's a small issue anyway. My point was that the unbeaten team was not one inherited from Graham. It was filled with his players and when fans and journalists pontificate about Wenger's recent inability to recreate the success being because he no longer had these 'inherited' players they are talking inaccurate nonsense.
He managed to assemble a team that went unbeaten, yet had creative and attacking flair which you would associate with his sides.

Doesn't it have a big fat '1' next to the Man United result?
