The problem is nothing to do with your PCs, your connections, or your hubs/modems. Or even Falkirk. This was already mentioned in the second post.
You're routed through Edinburgh, Edinburgh has major (possibly QoS/STM related) core network issues coinciding with the hours the STM kit is active.

Thanks for the heads up with regards to the situation with VM's broadband service in the Edinburgh area.
Didn't think that a new hub would solve the problem as my speeds have already halved from today's earlier test and will probably decline as the evening progresses.
Will post speedtest results at 8 pm to see how low they fall. Surely Virgin has to address this problem as quickly as possible as people will soon get so peeved off to the point they will be looking for alternative ISP's.

Well, Falkirk AFAIK is served off the South Gyle headend as is Edinburgh City, and that's where the core network issues are that's affecting everything going through it. Business connections also seem affected, even though there is no STM on business lines, but funny enough it's still only happening during STM hours and only to specified locations.

Give up, or go to the VM support forums. I chose give up, since most VM problems take months to fix.

Re: issues in the Falkirk (FK1 area) please help!
Hi mate. These are the latest set of stats from tests I've just completed. So the new hub was a total waste of time I would've been better staying with Sky BB as the speeds I was able to get through ASDL were marginally better. Speeds have dropped from nearly 20mbps to just under 3mbps.
I'm not a happy chappie at the moment. I wouldn't mind if VM acknowledged there was something seriously wrong and they were working on a fix. The "comical ali" school of customer service will drive away a lot of custom and that's not a reference to the Indian call centre's but the constant denial that any problems exist in the Edinburgh/Falkirk area
Is the service in the Edinburgh area oversubscribed to the point they have to enforce traffic shaping so drastically that everyone gets barely enough bandwith to browse the internet?
Someone at Virgin better get their finger out quick as I'm not going to continue to pay for a substandard service for much longer and to think they've got the audacity to sponsor the official xbox mag proclaiming Virgin broadband as the gamer's choice!

I didn't know we went through Edinburgh mate so I can't really comment.
All I know is I'm waiting on a call back as the woman said she was away to check the network.
At first she said there was no faults showing up and when she said it was because of my spyware running on the background I really had to bite my tongue, so to prove that the spyware was not the problem (I use Avast) I stopped it and ran a test and lo and behold I'm still getting the same speed.
Only in the UK can nonsense like this be allowed to happen and not get sorted. South Korea's up and down stream speeds are unreal and we have to put up with this nonsense.
I have a 50 meg connection and I'm trying to watch the football just now (which required a miniumum 2.5 meg connection) and its cutting out then jumping forward, total disgrace.
Official complaint is going in tomorrow
