V+ Box 3D problem.

I have a 3D TV (Sony 46HX803) which works perfectly with the 3D Blu-ray player , but when I try it using my V+ box , it won't work.

I get 3D side-by-side (two separate pictures) off the V+ box , rather than the blu-ray type of pictures.

The blu-ray picture looks like a blurred full-size picture but with the active-shutter glasses on it becomes a great 3D picture.

Is there a way to get the V+ output to deliver the blu-ray type of presentation.

It is probably me (being elderly) that can't seem to fathom it out ... I just assumed that it would work straight away as it did on the blu-ray player.

Surely Virginmedia must transmit the blu-ray type of data format.

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

As you've correctly noticed, V+ (like Sky+) transmits 'side by side' which is a way of transmitting 3D over systems that weren't designed with 3D in mind.

3D TV's are usually unable to automatically detect 'side by side'. You should have a 3D button on your remote (3D format or something like that) which will enable you to cycle through the types of 3D input format. That should then force the TV into decoding side by side and you're good to go!

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

It is the same format of 3D picture as Blu Ray, side-by-side. However whilst the TV picks up from the Blu Ray it is recieving a 3D signal the TV isn't getting that from the V+. 99% of home 3D content is in side by side. Its the TV that merges them into one image as every other frame is left, right.

There will be a button on the remote to manually enable the TVs 3D mode and that puts the two images together so you see the blurry full screen image. The Blu Ray player must submitt extra data to let the TV know its a 3D signal where as the V+ doesn't.

This happens with my Samsung 3D TV as well. When I play a 3D Blu Ray on my PS3 the TV automatically switches on 3D where as selecting 3D on my Xbox or playing 3D VOD I need to press the 3D button on my TVs remote to change to the correct mode.

So to sum up there is nothing wrong with your TV, if you were watching a 3D Blu Ray and pressed the 3D button to switch 3D off the Blu Ray would then revert to the side-by-side image too, as you are seeing the left and right image at the same time.

Hope that makes sense

Blu Ray isn't SBS.

As Muppetman11 says, BluRay isn't side by side:

Sorry Stephen!

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

It's 'MVC', so sort of. It's specially encoded so that a 3D BD will play in a 2D player and show a normal high quality image. Some ruddy clever maths going on there!

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

apologies.

However there is still nothing wrong with the OPs TV set and pressing the 3D button will enable 3D on the TV for the VM 3D on Demand service

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

Thank you all for your replies.

Got it sussed out at last ... Bit long winded but it works ... I was worried about the two pictures that were side by side ... Anyway it's now working.

Once the V+ box is showing the two side by side pictures , I do the following "clicks" on the Sony TV remote ... Press "3D" button , select 3D display , press "OK" button , select side-by side , press "OK" button , press the "Back" button ... I now have proper 3D off the V+ box.

To get back to normal , press the "Back" button then OK button , then press the "Back" button a few times.

Bit long winded and I had to make a list for my Wife to follow , but at least it works well now ... The Crocodiles and the Magicians are great to watch ... I will have to look at all the other 3D stuff ... I won't download any Pay-as-you-view films as films are available on Amazon and Ebay at about twice ('ish) the rental cost ... I will buy some more films as the Children and the Grandchildren will all want to see them ... We have to have several showings as we only have two adult glasses and two smaller childrens ones ... Shame about the price though ... Good job that the deal provided the two adult glasses free plus the free Sony BDP-S480 blu-ray player ... The smaller glasses unfortunately were £85 each.

Thank you all again for your replies.

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

It is the same for most 3D TVs, press the 3D button then select side by side. I need to do that on my Samsung too.

Re: V+ Box 3D problem.

I had an issue where I could not get the V+ box to recognise my TV as 3d. I have the Samsung V+ connected via a Arcam AVR-400 to a Panasonic TX-P50VT30B and when I tried playing 3d content the V+ service would reject my attempts confirming that I had to connect it to a 3d TV. I even tried switching the TV to 3d mode first but still no joy.

I eventually worked out that I needed to enable CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) on my AMP and as soon as I did that, the V+ box recognised the TV immediately and the TV also recognised the 3d picture, automatically enabling 3d mode.

Works very well indeed.....although just need some decent 3d content and films now lol.

Strange but unexplained. The HDMI level of V+ does not support CEC.

It's new in the UK5 STB software, which all Samsung V+'s now have.
