Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Could this be a sign of the future ?

The Insignia Connected TV will be the first television on the market that combines the power of the Internet with the legendary TiVo user interface and certain search capabilities, all in stunning high definition, creating a top-flight advanced television experience. Sign of TiVo's future. They know the DVR has started its decent (albeit a very slow one) into oblivion so they're branching out with deals like this in a hope that the brand will survive for years to come.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

It won't happen in the UK as VM have exclusive agreement with TIVO , unless VM go into selling TV's.

It could just be a deal to have the UI on the set top boxes and who knows the details of the agreement that they have? I think that TiVo would have some sort of leeway in the agreement and also the length of the agreement between them as well would come in to play as well?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

There is less of a need to do so in the UK (and Europe). Remember in the US TiVo is an add on to cable, so they are competing against the CableCo's own DVRs

In the UK TiVo is the DVR for Virgin, so they aren't competing

You are correct. VM are the exclusive UK partner for TiVo.

Would help if they didn't get a few things wrong in the review though

For instance

Quote:
One good thing, though, is that watching on-demand video doesn't slow your normal Virgin Media Internet connection down, as the box has its own broadband modem that establishes its own Web connection.
and

Quote:
One thing we couldn't find a way to do, however, was organise our list of shows alphabetically (they're presented with the most recent recording first). If you record a lot, that causes plenty of extra hunting
and then have a screen shot where it's got the 'sort (date') option clearly displayed

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

They gave both the standard Sky+ and the 1TB version's 5 stars. Obviously on Murdoch's payroll.

Or maybe just maybe the box is pretty stable with the software being around a lot longer , something I expect the TIVO will achieve over the coming year.

They've listed 3D as a positive for Sky.
TiVo does it. (Not listed)

They've listed the large HDD as a positive for Sky.
TiVo has it. (Not listed)

They've listed Sky on demand as a positive for Sky and Virgin on demand as a negative for TiVo.
Not a credible review.
