Many a true word.... Seriously, I don't mind Sky getting exclusive rights to their channels, as long as other providers can provide the channels at an appropriate price. But if that is to be denied, it should be possible for providers such as VM to give us access to these programmes via the internet. The whole system is so biased to Rupert Murdoch, David Cameron might be taken more seriously if he were to address this issue!

I'm not saying its right I agree with you , Atlantic should now be on VM in my eyes. I can understand Sky having say a 6 month exclusive period however then it should be available to other platforms. Your question as to how much have they paid
The agreement, which is worth a reported £150m over five years, will ensure that all new HBO-commissioned shows and series will be broadcast first on Sky channels in high definition.

I am afraid that you are probably right. However, David Cameron could get himself out of a hole with those who say he's in cohoots with the Rupert Murdoch empire just with that one simple change. Grrr!

Yes, but once shown, can it then be broadcast on other channels or On Demand?

No. If the room allows, try viewing your 37" screen from 16 feet away. Even with perfect eyesight, your eyes won't be able to see the individual pixels of SDTV (which are about 1 sq mm). So making the pixels 4 times smaller (HDTV) will make no difference to the detail you can see.
The only difference you may see is fewer encoding artifacts on moving scenes due to the higher bitrate.

So maybe those who can't tell the difference are just sitting at the wrong distance from their screens?

For a 32inch TV, around 1m for 1080p, 2m for 720p.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
Now, after all that, let's hope that we get some good box sets of programmes through Lovefilm or the like on the TIVO box. If anyone hears anything credible about moves in that direction, this would be much appreciated. Particularly if it involves HBO shows.

Come on streaming v HDTV? HDTV will trounce streaming services for quality everyday of the week. I have not used Lovefilm streaming but from what I read the streaming is of quite poor quality.

Couldn't agree more , I've watched MLBTV HD and Acetrax via my TV and none come close to Broadcast HD , I also tried Lovefilm via the PS3 and that wasn't an enjoyable experience.
