I think it was in 1998 when it was first released.

In 1998 wass the wishlist-YES
Was there suggestions-YES
Did it have PVR functions-YES
Could a user go backwards through the epg-YES.

So yes, in 1998 Tivo was the future.
You are on one of your anti-tivo rants again.

To be pedantic (& I often am) It should either be "the future is Tivo" (questionable)
Tivo is the future (for now perhaps)

or Tivo is the latest PVR ( Guess thats as close to the fact as you could get in a short sentence.)
But you are right of cause it is none of these things. Its a rehash ( As I have said else were). Was 98 its launch in the states - I thought I had one earlier than that. However my memory is not what it was.

Don't you have anything positive or constructive to say in this thread.

Re: Tivo The future

I'd like to see a child lock feature so the buttons on the box can be disabled so little kids (like mine) don't mess things up like they do with my V+ box.

Also seeing as in the future we may be able to stream recordings from the main box onto any box in the house, how about reversing the feature, for example if you are recording 3 programs on the main box instead of watching a recording why not be able to stream the output from a second box to the main box (obviously without the ability to record, rewind or pause etc).

Why does the truth upset you so much? The Tivo is NOT the future of PVR it is the present and will in time be the past & outdated. History shows that only too well

Constructive comment OK people, use it , enjoy it , live with its many faults & most of all accept that other people see it as a waste of money.

One last thought if if was supplied/ fitted at no cost & had no extra charge & might look at getting it!!!!

The truth never upsets me but making a comment about something you have never tried so how are you qualified to make a informed comment or opinion on it beggars belief, the point is please try it before coming to rushed conclusions.

Well, I haven't tried cannibalism, morris dancing, or anal probing, but I am pretty sure I don't want to try them before coming to a opinion....

I believe that people can have an informed* opinion without the actual experience - ymmv.

*informed being the important caveat....

Den,

Have you ever had Sky HD?,if not,do you think you are being slightly hypocritical with some of your comparisons between TiVo and Sky HD

How true,
Reading the views of many users on this and other web sites, seeing the pros & cons of which in both counts there are many.

Have seen the Tivo in action & having used the product in the past.Abet being in the States.

Having been with Virgin since the company, I was with, was called Cable Tel. so well know there track record on promises.

I like to think of myself as well informed to make a judgement. I never had a wartburg car but I knew that I was not ever going to buy one either just by reading reviews. I am not say never to the Tivo but I think it is not the finished thing yet , & not worth the extra costs.
Even if I was offered a swap I am NOT sure that at this stage I would do that - Red button/ reminders are the main problem for me. Picture quality is also a issue but for that it would clearly have to be installed.

I personally like TIVO , I have used both the TIVO premiere in the USA and a friends VM TIVO , my main problem with leaving Sky is as follows A. VM lacks to many key HD channels B. £3.00 a month charge for a STB to me isn't worth it when BT/Sky etc offer me one with no monthly charge C. I don't see the extra features of TIVO worth forking out for. These are just my opinions and I respect everybody is different.
