Xbox making a faint clicking noise
Hey guys, my 360 is making a faint clicking noise and I just wondered what it could be. the shelf that the console is sitting on and is made of wood, and the console is flat. It did reboot no less than three times of its own accord the other day if that helps.

Sounds like a definite possibility. HD clicking is never a good sign unless it's done it from day 1. Some disks are noisier than others but a *new* clicking sound is definitely something to worry about.

Re: Xbox making a faint clicking noise
Take the drive off and see if it still clicks to be sure.
How old is the 250GB drive as you obviously get 1 months warranty.

Its over a month old, bearing in mind, if it does fail, where do I stand, cos you cant down grade back to the 120GB as far as I know?

Re: Xbox making a faint clicking noise
Disk tray often makes a clicking noise on all versions of the console.

You have 12 months warranty on the item legally if you bought it new, as long as you still have the receipt? so you just get it replaced.

Re: Xbox making a faint clicking noise
You don't *have* to have the receipt, but it obviously helps.
Do you have anything which can prove when/where you purchased it?

Re: Xbox making a faint clicking noise
Is there any chance you could take a sound recording of it and I can give the best Diagnostic I can.
I could rule out the Disk tray immediately as this has a distinct click to it.
That would leave the HDD which I could also rule out by simply asking you to remove it then Power on the Xbox and see if the clicking sound persists which would then leave the Fan's as the only moving part on the machine and the cause.

Re: Xbox making a faint clicking noise
I removed the HDD and it no longer made the noise, also cleaned out fans by using compressed air and re attached the HDD. However it only makes the noise about 2 seconds after the dashboard then stops and the Xbox can still see the hard drive
