Port Forwarding
I wanted to use winmx now and again but my transfers and downloads are very sluggish to what they have been and should be. I have a Linksys WRT54GSV7 router but using the DD-WRT firmware. I have forwarded ports to open in the router but if I use a program to check if they are open the program is telling me they are closed. I am using windows 7 and have only enabled the program to be unblocked by the firewall, it does not seem to matter what ports I choose they are still blocked, never had the problem before but something has changed that is restricting the up and download bandwidth, anyone got any ideas

Blimey I didn't even know WinMX still existed, I personally wouldn't touch with a barge pole but that's just personal/professional oppinion.

Not sure, did disable firewall but ports were still saying closed.

Check what port winmx is listening on. It should be in the options somewhere.
Open a command prompt and check what ip your computer has. e.g. 192.168.0.xxx.
Go to your routers config page and forward the port that it's listening on to your computers ip. Forward both TCP and UDP to be sure.
I too am astounded that winmx still works though.

If it's connecting but downloading slowly, it's not the ports. Ports enable connections, they do not restrict bandwidth. Look somewhere else...
