Wireless interference from ch10 through ch13
I've been using channel 13 for years, with no problems. Within the last month, something non-wifi is blocking use from channel 10 up to 13. It's marginal on ch 9, then fine below that. The trouble is, this is forcing all the wireless routers in my area to auto switch to channels 1 and 6, and it's got a bit crowded (especially due to dual channel use on N routers) - resulting in poor throughput for everyone.
If I try and use channel 13, my laptop/mobile can only get a connection if it's within 2ft of my wireless router (with dual 5dBi antennas). Beyond that, it can see the SSID, but can't connect.
This isn't confined to my property - it affects a pretty big area, as I've wandered about the neighbourhood with a WiFi analyser on my mobile - nothing appears above channel 9.
This interference is 24 hour non stop, from what I can tell - inSSIDer running for an extended period shows no wifi use above channel 8. There are enough wifi signals about to cause one or two of the routers that are set to "auto" channel to be kicked up to channel 11, but instead they're all forced onto 1-8 (mostly 1 and 6). Even several SSIDs I know to be on a manual channel like mine have all moved from ch 10-13, down under 8.
Is there a way I can get this investigated? The fact that it's continuous interference suggests it's not accidental. I don't really want to fork out £100 for a USB spectrum analyser to try and track the source down.
The usual suspects, like cordless phones, and microwaves wouldn't be 24hr, and video senders tend to be directional, and low power. Any ideas?
