£49 + Installation for 99.99% of customers is not "One rule for one, and another for another".

Well obviously you ave not read any of the posts concerning TiVo as it takes a minimum of 45 minutes to install and people with TiVo will vouch for that as the tech has to ensure that all the firmware is downloaded and it is online as this box has its own broadband connection, rather unlike the boxes you remember in the good old days.

So next time read about it first before making silly posts that are obviously incorrect.

Re: getting the tivo for 50 pounds

I do not think that existing customers who have remained loyal to Virgin for a number of years should pay this connection fee of £40 at all. After all, without loyal customers, virgin would soon go out of business.

Re: getting the tivo for 50 pounds

You are getting a piece of equipment installed so there for will have to pay the £40 charge whether a new or existing customer, unless there is a promotion on at the time.

And it costs Virgin Media to obtain these boxes, maintain these boxes, pay the engineers wage to install these boxes, pay the fuel to get the box there, pay the agent you speak to on the phone to get the order arranged, pay the people in the wharehouse to ship the boxes about, pay the agent the technician rings to activate everything, pay TiVo x amount to supply Virgin Media the TiVo service and maintain it. Install charges aren't there to make money. They're there to regain money that the company has spent and would otherwise lose if the install fee was not present.

It isn't one rule for everybody though is it??

...I've had the letter, addressed to specifically to me telling me i'm a top customer and that if... i upgrade to vip50 i can have free install and no monthly fee, well this top customer already has vip50, you would think they already knew this?? Which begs the question, if i wasn't on vip50 i wouldn't really be a top customer would i?
So do i throw the letter in the bin, or is it an underhanded attempt at getting me to phone up and "request" free installation??

So why not catagorically state, everybody pays install charges, whether your a new customer, old customer, top customer, peeved off customer or mates with the M.D. The whinging starts when some people start getting a better deal than others, and because more and more people are connected around the country via forums or even twitter, everybody knows. Just like the super injunctions gossip even about sales reps offering free installs over the phone spreads like wildfire.

Re: getting the tivo for 50 pounds

I had Tivo installed on 21 May for £49.95 plus £40 installation. As I am led to believe from this forum the installation charge is now being waived so could I cancel Tivo within the 28 days and then reorder it?
