Virgin blocking certain sites?

Hi all
I need your help please

I have a D-link 685 which appeared to have started blocking website access to certain sites, however Ive just tried taking the the router out going straight to the PC and it still does not work! Is this a problem with Virgin??

When I try to access :
www.photobucket.com
or
www.mountune.co.uk

The browser just hangs, ive tried firefox, chrome and IE9 and my iphone, none work or load these sites.

Ive just tried swapping the router out and it still does not work! Is this a problem with Virgin??

Please help!

Thanks

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

I presume the first one is photobucket..

Both work for me.. It's more than likely to be a DNS or routing problem which you;re not he first one today to complain about..

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

Yup first one is photobucket (corrected now)

Is there any way I can fix this? Or is it virgin who need to fix it?

This site (cableforum) is also painfully slow.

---------- Post added at 21:19 ---------- Previous post was at 21:18 ----------

And not loading fully or correctly

Any fixes?

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

both work fine for me dude, but that being said, i use the google dns servers.

If you fancy changing some settings (which is easy so dont worry) try using the google dns servers and see if it helps. The following will take 30 seconds tops:

Click on start, control panel, network and sharing, manager network connections. Right click your network connection and click on properties, this will launch a connections properties windows. Click on ipv4, properties, click on use the preferred dns servers and enter the following:

8.8.8.8.
8.8.4.4.

and click on ok. To confirm the new setting you can click start, run, type in "cmd" and hit enter. This will launch a command prompt, type in "ipconfig /all" and hit enter. This will spit out all network connection info, the bit you want to look for is dns servers and make sure the ones you just entered are in there.

After that you are sorted, open IE again and give those sites a try.

Have you tried my link above.

It is a routing issue and according to other forums it is not just Virginmedia related.

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

It seems to be happening in waves. I can't get to the bbc news site now but it was perfectly fine a minute before.

And its ok again. Could even be an attack on some critical infrastructure that is causing the sporadic issues.

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

Well the main BBC website has been slow for me since yesterday. Not bothered about the technical info yet as it keeps coming and going. But deffo the BBC main home page has been slow and cant often goto another site without first closing the page and re-opening another browser page.

Re: Virgin blocking certain sites?

If it is someone trying to bring down the internet, I wish they would stop it.

As its "B" annoying!
