Would you rent a TV from VM?

Would you rent a TV from VM?

I'm looking at new TV's at the mo and wondering - is it going to be OK, will the picture be OK - will it sound nice - will it break down - should i extend warantee - and quite frankly sh*tting myself over what should be nice experience

I've rented V+ box from VM for couple years stress-free & now i've just rented Tivo & I'm thinking, would i rent a TV from VM & my answer is Yes + let them worry about whether it works OK + change it every couple years or so or maybe option to buy it cheap

I paid about £1500 (and that was half price) for my TV about 4 years ago so it works out £325 per year if i get rid now

VM have their fingers in a lot of pies at the moment and maybe they should think about contracting TV's too

I'm looking at the LG Cinema 3D range I was very impressed with them.

Renting a tv is a dear option and a thing of the past, plus you would be stuck with probably one model so not truly a viable option as you may hate the tv they had on offer.

We have a 42" Philips ambilight (ambient lighting) at the mo and my wife <insists> we have another ambilight - TBH i think she want to keep this one but hey, its 4 years old - might just chuck a cup of coffee down the back next week :o)

Would have agreed entirely yesterday - never rented a tele in my life - but now I'm crunching the numbers (£325 per year) I'm not so sure + I would have more confidence if VM had already done the research for me + we could all bitch about all the stuff it wouldn't do so they can pipe us an update :o)

doubt that very much - they offer a range of mobile phones and they would offer a range of TV's - and to be honest I wouldn't want to have to big a choice (5 sets maybe) because thats where I am right now - confused

Mobile phones are a different market and I doubt that tv would be worth the hassle as they would need teams of television engineers which all costs money which would be reflected in the cost of the rental.

As virtually noone rents tv's I doubt the would be much demand considering how cheap they are to buy nowadays.

If you look at the prices below in the link as an example renting is quite expensive 18 months worth of rental woud mean you had effectively bought the set, so if you bought a set in the first place and even adding a 5 year warranty you would be quids in over 5 years ,one reason why i would never rent a tv set from anybody.

You can effectively get a 5yr warranty for free with John Lewis , just get them to pricematch your cheapest quote online if you look around there are many online retailers with a high street shop as well , find me a model and put me to the test LOL :-) Obviously the model has to be stocked by JL.

Yes l agree with you as tv,s are so cheap nowadays to buy and there is always offers on.

What are your reasons for wanting to upgrade?

3D?
bigger screen?
Better PQ?

Depending on the above, your wife may have the right idea?

Yes bought my tv set online a a couple of years ago got a good price,and the extended warranty with axa was only £103 on top,as you say though John Lewis will give you a free 5 year warranty (on tvs) plus excellent customer service i bought my computer from them and they were very helpful.

Did not realise they price matched online quotes though.

Yes if the shop has a store as well, they have agreed a pricematch for my new TV knocking me 250 off.

Thats very good i have made up my mind due to the customer service i got with my computer to buy any new tv from John Lewis (in the future) or for that matter any large electrical appliance.

Sony shop in Middlesbrough giving 600 pound on your old TV for Sony 3d tv cost 849pound (Orig cost £1449) includes 2 pairs of 3d glasses plus sender. Includes 5 year guarantee. Don't know if this offer is in all Sony shops. Think it was a 40'' lcd can't remember exact size.
