Yeah I think it will arrive at some point.

Not to mention user testing to ensure it works.
It won't be an overnight job...well unless they're all doped up on caffeine!

I agree. Not sure how easy Flash is to programme though, so I can't comment on that bit.

Well I didn't think it would be that easy. Seems I was right

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I think you might find that the SD screens aren't flash, that's the problem.

What I don't understand, Lew, is that there already seem to be HD versions of some of the functions but they are not always accessed.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember them but I will note them down and add to this thread.
I think 'Upcoming Episodes' is one.

I didn't realise but I have 3 recordings set for 9pm tonight. Does it not tell me that they will clash when I set the 3rd 9pm recording?

No, you'll get a pop up window a couple of minutes before saying it needs to change channel and ask you whether you want it to or whether you want to cancel one of the recordings. Mine did it last night but the only reason they clashed was because of padding.

Given that it can record three things at once, and assuming there are no padding issues, why would/should it warn you?

OK I didn't know that the low res screens are not in flash, but any decent programmer wouldn't code directly to the display UI but have function calls which the UI calls
It only becomes harder if you want to add more features which don't have functions already available
The current low res screens really let down the visual performance of TIVO when trying to sell it to mates
And coding a UI in flash is very simple even for a half witted programmer

The same reason the V+ did with two tuners, so you know not to attempt to watch a fourth?
Iv been caught out a couple of times.

V+ had a dedicated live tuner, so didn't warn you if you swapped channels as it wouldn't affect any recordings
Only reason it warned of clashes if you were trying to set 3 recordings at the same time. TiVo will do the same if you try to set 4 at the same time I think.

Or if you attempt to set three recordings but padding causes issues.

It seems that the screens that have both HD and SD versions available (such as the recording options and series link screens) depend on where you're accessing them from. If you access them from a screen with the discovery bar then you get the HD version (which is why the trick of selecting "Explore this show" from the recording dialog works to get the HD series link screen). Accesing them directly from the guide gets you the SD version. The guide does seem to be separate from the main HD UI as can be seen by the fact that the screens with the discovery bar correctly pillarbox 4:3 content in the mini video window, but in the guide they're stretched to fit the mini window.

Thing is, we don't know how much legacy code there is in the SD sections of the code. With the TiVo product being over 10 years old who knows how much cruft there is?

I agree. It wouldn't be quite so bad if it didn't mean losing the picture and sound of the programme you're watching. Still, I'm willing to wait and see what they can do now that they've actually got TiVo working to an extent on VM's system.

I'm sure it is, but there's more to TiVo than just the UI. It needs to hook into the underlying code correctly as well.

But what if you unwillingly set 3 records then go to watch live tv at the same time?
