Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
hmm ok so my only option is to throw the toys out of the pram? nothing a tech or change to 30 or 50 mbit will fix?
If i changed upto 50mbit would that put me on a different circuit/profile anything? Would it be likely to improve this situation or is it that its at capacity and nothign can fix it.

Not at all; I'm just pointing out incremental improvements to the service in my area. I think the reason it's quite consistent is that I live in the British equivalent of a backwoods redneck town filled with toothless simpletons who can barely operate a browser.
I'd definitely report that service. It's not the worst I've seen, but the latency shouldn't regularly be off the chart like that.

Interesting; this continues the trend of minimum latency being ~5-10ms higher on superhub connections.
Welshchris, that's one of the top 10% I've seen, very nice, although like me you're getting tiny spikes once or twice a day. Wonder what causes that...

Hi there im currently on 20mbit...
I don't need the extra bandwidth but if it were to make gaming and using the internet in peak hours viable ill consider it
ADSL is not an option for me.

Superhub just decided to reboot itself for no reason whatsoever, nice.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
Numerous emails and phone calls and keep getting 'it should be fixed by tomorrow' its been the same message since the last time I posted my graph here.
I have a question if someone would be kind enough to answer: Would upgrading to the 30mb service using the docsis 3 network improve things?
Also, are my power levels good? Because I've had 2 engineers booked and cancelled because of my power levels. Both times they were cancelled because there was an on going fault in my area and was told they weren't necessary
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 109
Downstream Frequency : 306750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 24.9 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.8 dB
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 2
Upstream Frequency : 35800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 5120 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 44.7 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 4
Sorry for hijacking the thread. I'm at a loss here.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
Wow. Your downstream receive power level is insanely high, surprised you've even got a connection!
That definitely needs lowering, and if it's an area fault like they say, it should fix itself.
You also seem to be on the QPSK modulation which is more noise tolerant and could be contributing to the TBB graph, although I'd wait for someone like Igni to comment on that in more detail.

i agree he needs it dropped by atleast 20dBmv to be sure.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
neo tech is correct on both things. High power level and the QPSK channel likely causing congestion.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
It is interesting to see how badly STM is failing.
At 9-10PM when everyone's P2P apps kick back in (either via their built-in scheduler or people manually starting them) latency goes through the roof. I have been seeing that for years. Late evening gaming is a waste of time.
During the early evening 6-9PM despite the STM it is clear that Virgin have capacity issues. How about instead of rolling out ever faster speeds they fix their network first?
All STM has managed to do is spread the problem over a longer period (5PM-1AM). I have always said it was an idiotic plan for the above reasons, and also because by the time it kicks in the "damage", or rather the over-utilisation, has already occurred.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)
STM is near useless to be honest on the upload, the limit is extrememly generous.

Well, superhot power levels aside (get them turned down by a tech before your modem fries) consider the following.
Average "bad day" on legacy
Average day (generally) on DOCSIS 3 overlay
So yeah, in my very subjective experience (both of those snapshots are mine), the latter is far better. Although of course I'd factor in the VMNG300 running far below it's maximum and the Ambit 250 running close to it's maximum.
