Because it's not a simple thing to do. If you try to run software designed for a single CPU on a multiprocessor system unchanged, generally it will either crash, or will only use one processor and won't be any faster.

Well they are not likely to redesign the software are the so doubt that will happen.

Well, at least it's there for any future software that is designed for dual CPUs. It gives the TiVo a degree of future proofing. Better to have the facility than not.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that 2nd core to be activated. TiVo Premiere owners have now been waiting for over 13 months for that to happen and the software would possibly require a significant rewrite for there to be any significant benefit for the user (Post 11 in the linked TCF thread below is interesting reading):

I am on TV XL and waiting to get the 500GB TiVo box. Will I have to pay a £8 or £3 sub for it?

Presumably it will be £3 on xl tv chunkymonkey as that is what it is with the 1TB box. Your profile says L tv though? I think it is £8 for that.

It is a £3 monthly TiVo fee for XL TV (£8 non-XL TV)

Of course, the space figure which TiVo displays is actually the space used by you for the recordings you have made and not yet watched.
The drive is more than likely full because it keeps all deleted and suggested recordings as well.
Perhaps the maintenance required to delete the already deleted or to delete the suggested to allow a new recording is what slows the box down.
If left alone, I presume the TiVo's disk will always be full but I would have expected it's operation to be optimised for this situation.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Hi
Just got my tivo box installed, all good however a few questions:-
Why does it tell me BBC1 HD Channel 108 is an Adult channel and prompts me to enter the code to view ?!
Also when going into the Info, and looking at the tuners, should i see 3 there or just 2 ?
Even though I can login to You Tube application, it doesn't appear to display my registered subscriptions etc , that I would see if logged in via a normal pc browser?
What is the latest software version i should see under sys info ?
Many thanks

The reason it will be asking for a PIN will be due to the data still be downloaded?
There will be 3 tuners as if you are watching a channel and you push info and it will show the other 2 tuners?
The latest software is AE8.

Correct.
Irrelevant.

As mentioned elsewhere, deleted programmes are not counted in the "Space Available" calculation.
Of course, Suggestions are included as they are recordings available to watch. They will also be the first things to be deleted if it becomes necessary.
