David Cameron criticised for 'calm down dear' jibe

Is this the sort of behaviour a PM should be indulging in? Disgraceful IMHO.

Quote:
Labour has accused David Cameron of sexism after he told a female MP to "calm down dear" during a Commons exchange.

The prime minister borrowed the catchphrase made famous by Michael Winner, during a row about NHS reforms.

Shadow chief secretary to the Treasury Angela Eagle, at whom the comment was aimed, said "a modern man" would not have "expressed himself that way".

But a Downing Street spokesman said it was just "a humorous remark".

The clash came as Mr Cameron used the words of former Labour MP - and GP - Howard Stoate to defend his plans to introduce GP commissioning in the NHS in England

Re: David Cameron criticised for 'calm down dear' jibe

I'm not a Cameron fan but I did feel sorry for him..A poor joke that rebounded on him but hardly worth getting in a tizzy over.

Perhaps he should have said it in a scouse voice?

I think it was in very poor taste at the very least by the PM.

Cant there be humour in politics? Doesn't humour break tension? It does for me! Some people are stuck so far up their own back sides its unreal.

nothing wrong with it ,but on the plus side if Cameron is dragged through the mud because of this then it may be an incentive to get rid of the PC crap that we have to live by these days

Storm in a tea cup.

I have always seen PMQ's as a bit of a show and this is all this is at the end of the day.

Tell me this, just out of interest, when does a "spineless A hole" stop being a "spineless A hole"?

Is it when they stand up to or complain about people who think they are being funny at their expense?

Re: David Cameron criticised for 'calm down dear' jibe

Michael Winner, involved in the 'Calm down dear' commercials has apparently entered this pathetic row and stated that some of the Labour front benchers seriously need to think of way more important issues. If indeed Labour, were calling it offensive then they need to rap the knuckles of Labour leader Ed Miliband, for laughing and finding it amusing himself.
