Question Help with Suggestions

I've got a dilema with suggestions and thumbs up/down.

I get a lot of suggestions for stuff that is definitely up my street. However, it's all from shows in the past that I've seen to death and wouldn't want to watch again. Often shows that are no longer made, or unlikely to have new series for a long time.

I need to be able to tell TiVo "don't bother with these 20 or so shows, I really liked them, but I don't want you to waste recording time on them". How do I do that?

This presents a big problem, as it applies to rating shows in EPG or browsing categories, not just stuff in My Suggestions.

Thanks

Boz

PS Please, no "just record everything", "you don't understand the point of TiVo" or "why did you bother buying TiVo" posts.

Re: Help with Suggestions

This has been my experience of suggestions so far too, lots and lots of episodes that I've already seen.

I do like the idea of suggestions, but I also kind of wonder how useful they will really be when there's relatively so little new content on. Still, it's kind of fun seeing what stuff gets recorded each day and perhaps it will improve over the coming weeks.

I posted this on another thread:

When you to your suggestions if you do not like the show from the main list, Click on it and you are able to give the thumbs up/down and then delete or keep the programme.

Hope this help?

Re: Help with Suggestions

They're often programmes I like, I've just seen them all. If I give them a thumbs down then the box would surely never learn what kind of stuff I like and would instead make it more likely to avoid recording things I like (as it would stop looking for things similar to them).

Re: Help with Suggestions

I could delete the 30 odd programs it's already recorded, but it's a bit daft doing that regularly. And if I kept everything as some suggest, then I need a much better way of filtering and sorting the flat list of programs! Imagine wading thru 100s of unwanted programs just to find one programme you haven't seen yet.

Could really do with an answer to how to resolve this.

All it needs is a way to permit thumb up but mark as "ignore this series" or "ignore all series".

Suggestions get automatically wiped when TiVo needs recording space anyway, so I wouldn't waste time wiping them.

Better yet, just tell your TiVo to stop recording suggestions.

Re: Help with Suggestions

It would helpful to 'block' channels in suggestions. I dont mind it recording the odd episode of QI on bbc 1. But not ever bloody repeat on DAVE!

I could wait until I run out of space, but I'm only using 12% and have an unmanageable list of programmes in suggestions, so long that I can't be bothered to wade through it and work out if there's anything interesting there.

This makes the Suggestions feature a bit pointless really.

I think I'll just turn suggestions off, as you suggest. It's unusable at the moment.

Whilst I agree with your main point, I can at least help with this bit. Set a "Keep until" date on any one episode, and it'll put all episodes of that programme in a folder in My Shows. You can then browse that folder, and delete the whole lot in one go if you want to.
