I hope ESPN try for a couple even if it does mean it being removed from XL, it's not fair that there's only one main sports provider making them able to act & charge whatever they like.

Anyway back on topic, any news on Ginx TV?

The Karen Murphy case due for a verdict later this year may have an effect on both the value of the rights, and the way in which they are sold, so it's difficult to say what might happen at the minute.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
It would be good if ESPN would pick up more NFL games from Sky. That would make more people subscribe ESPN and bigger income.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
I think the main reason for not enough games being shown is down to the PL and FL. and that some of them games won't have a 'large viewer content'.
I sent an email to Sky and ESPN on the same subject, and each broadcastor came back with 1) only allowed to show certain amount of games 2) Viewer content.
This is why Blue Square games went down hill on Setanta, no one watched them, I did, l thought that some of them were brilliant games to watch, the games are now shown on Premier Tv l think.

Imagine nearly every PL game was televised , what do you think would happen to attendance at games ?
In my opinion ESPN should secure two of the six packs which I believe they will , go head to head with Sky and take NFL and then add more sports like Rugby League etc instead of all foreign football. The Super League have said they are looking to make more Rugby League games available at the next rights.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
Nothing would happen to attendances, with all PL/FL games being televised.
ALL football fans would get to the games whatever the weather, l used to travel miles to watch Spurs play home and away, l even travelled to Hearts in Scotland for a friendly, and to Crewe when they played them in the Cup, ITS for the fans who cannot get to the games ie cost of travel or work commitments.
When l was a kid, the only game on Tv was The Big Match on a Sunday or MOTD but these were all recorded games.
Now we pay a hefty price for Live games, and all PL games are on Football First, so why can't they show the games live, Football on tv won't effect attendances whatsoever.
Prime example, my two sons paid paid nearly £200.00 to see Spurs play in a cup tie, knowing full well it was Live on Tv, it is the atmosphere thats important.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
ESPN need sky because of all their millions of customers. I do believe ESPN will compete strongly for Premier league games but sky will still get the better deal. You have to remember ESPN are still working with the old `watered down` contract from Setanta. Also, I seem to remember Sky were told/asked to help ESPN get up and running. Not sure if that`s still the case? As for ESPN coming off the xl package, that would be a disaster for them as I don`t believe many would pay subs for both sky sports and ESPN,I certainly wouldn`t. Virgin could of course offer both sky sports and ESPN as a joint package as sky do now. It`s all `ifs and buts` of course.

Red Button will launch on Sky Sports tomorrow night.
I have been told today that The Sky Sports Red Button will launch tomorrow night at 7.30pm and will launch with West Indies v Pakistan - International Cricket 3rd ODI until 9.30pm when Sky Sports 2 is broadcast Rep. Ireland VS England Football game.
TiVo users will not get the Sky Sports Red Button until July.

It`s all about cost for me. I stopped going to matches about 15 years ago because the cost to get in,as well as travel was just to much. (Mind you I follow Middlesbrough so perhaps not going is a wise thing!). Watching live football on the tv is much better value for me. If the cost of attending a match was drasticly reduced(which wont happen) I`d start going again.

The NFL feels televised games affect attendances , ok its a different sport but people lose the incentive when every game their team is in gets televised. There will always be die hards however not enough to fill grounds.
