Suggestions always have a lower priority compared to other types of recordings. As such, they will automatically get deleted to make room for series link/manual/wishlist recordings.

You won't. Suggestions will be automatically deleted if the TiVo needs space for one of your own recordings.

True, but it will delete shows earlier if they're iin HD. Wasn't really being serious anyway

Yes. That was my point I was unsure whether the poster I was replying to was meaning a programme currently recording or watching something previously recorded.

We sorted this out a couple of pages back

Yes.

Bizarre. Seems logical as that's the functionality I am used to on the V+. Hopefully this will get addressed.

Mind you nothing seems quite as erratic as what the V+ decides to do when you exit a recording. Sometimes it goes back to live TV sometimes it goes back to the recordings menu. There doesn't appear to be any pattern either.

I'm sure I'll find something else to moan about when TiVo gets installed this week

3 other menu pages at that, 2 of which are in SD.

It's a bit harder to set a recording accidentally though, as just pressing record won't set it to record, you have to press record then confirm it.

That's one of my pet hates with Tivo, there's subpages within the menu system for absolutely everything, it's like you have to confirm to confirm that you confirm things at times.

And how many on the V+? About the same, IIRC.

Also, there is a shortcut - HOME + 2 - that takes you straight to the "upcoming recordings" page

Nothing like a bit of over-exaggeration

Zero different screens, and 2 button presses.
The question specifically was about from the TV guide, which on the V+ is 2 button presses (record then ok to confirm you want to cancel it) on Tivo it involves navigating away from the guide into an SD menu.

On the V+ you press record, it sets it to record, you press record again, it asks if you want to cancel it. That's how it should work, not press record and get a window where you have to go into an SD options screen, then from there go cancel recording which then takes you to another submenu asking you to confirm it. It's unnecessarily convoluted.

No matter how many times you repeat yourself it doesn't change the fact you're not comparing apples to apples. We're specifically on about canceling a record from within the tv guide, and you seem to think navigating away from the tv guide to a completely different menu is an ok alternative.

Really? You sure?

Well I can achieve the same thing with two button presses on my Tivo remote....

Home then 2 to get to "upcoming recordings" then find programme, "cancel" and confirm.

So not that different, really.

Unless you want to set up a series link. Then it's more button presses. But don't mention that because it makes sound just like Tivo

I will admit that, on one-off recordings, the ability to cancel through the EPG is not a bad idea.

No it's really not. It just sounds like it.

Guess which character Carl is?

...you've used your two button presses just getting to "upcoming recordings"...

It's like one of iphone adverts that show something being done stupidly quickly, with "steps removed to make sequence shorter" stuck at the bottom of the screen

It's one of those things that will annoy you most of the time, but when you accidentally press it, will wonder why the V+ didn't do it.

But yeah, I was mainly querying whether or not it was as simple as the V+ to cancel...obviously not.

I have seen there are quite a number of shortcuts, but no matter how many times I tell myself they are there I will never use them. Much like the current VM software. I know you can press the corresponding number but I never do. And I suspect most people will be the same.

IMO, the core functionality should be no more than one or two presses away.

TiVO is sounding a bit like the Symbian operating system on Nokias in some respects. It could do an awful lot but the options were sometimes buried. However, the TiVO software actually looks the part whereas Symbian never does

Re: What we would like in the next Tivo update.

Using both the V+ and Tivo regulary now, the Tivo is much more of a pain and fiddle to use. But then again it is offering a lot more.
I can only imagine when the novelty has worn off it will become even more of a pain to set recordings, flick through menus, etc. Its certainly not built for speed!

To me it all sounds a little complicated and a bit like using an advanced smartphone than a bloody STB!
