To be fair though --- you haven't used it on tivo. The reviews I read about it didn't explain how well implemented and convenient it is.

If you are a person that does use Youtube for such things, I suspect that, when you come back over from the 'Dark Side' and get tivo, you will find yourself using it!

Sorry, I do have to disagree on this bit on Youtube though:

I think it's a great feature. Why come away from the TV to switch the PC on to get information that is available from one click on the TV you are already watching?

Now, if they also added a link to Internet Movie Database, that would be great, though a lot of that information is there already, just not as complete.

I have it on a Blu Ray player , but it doesn't really compare to the PC version.

So do I and you're right in that respect, but it's the implementation on Tivo that makes it so good. It's a 'one click' to get youtube videos on a specific show, actor, director etc. that you're looking at in the Tivo menus.

some of the content that is available on the web version isn't available on 'connected devices' such as Tivo or TVs and blueray players. I believe the content author can decide on where it's viewable.

But the Tivo serch results give you a good selection and good for a quick look before or after you watch the show you're browsing, or in deciding wheather it's worth a watch.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

My TiVo is fairly often giving me difficulty with "HDMI connection not permitted", and I'm not sure whether there is a reliable method of getting round this, or whether I should even phone in as a fault.

I seem to remember someone posting that it could be to do with having HDMI and scart both connected? My TiVo is connected to my 18 month old Sony KDL40s5500 LCD by HDMI, and to my 7? year old Panasonic DMR-ES20 DVDR by scart.

Any suggestions?

Derek

it's a process of elimination.

I'd try just connecting the tivo with HDMI and no scart connection to see if it fixes it.

Try a different HDMI input on the TV

If not, try a different HDMI lead.

If that doesn't fix it and your TV worked with V+ via HDMI, I'd ring VM; it may be a faulty HDMI out on Tivo?

Lets hope so as that and reminders are two things that are missing at the moment.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

any idea why my Tivo defaults to recording wishlist searches on Audio Description channels?

I have to manually trawl through a long list of Frasier's to change this.

Why should wishlists default to high channel numbers? surely it would make more sense to start searching from 101?

TiVo has never had those features though, so really they aren't missing

It shouldn't matter if it records those channels though as the audio description has to be selected. Otherwise you will just get standard audio.

But if Virgin listen to customers feedback which has already been stated on this forum that these two things need to added at some point in the future.
