I don't want anyone to be silent but think this one has gone on long enough. it's getting repetitive

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Hi, at a cost of over £80 per month TiVo is too expensive for me so i won't be taking it, my current package is £69 without the extra cost for XL TV.

Your view and opinion, and yet you're repeatedly banging on and on about how people don't need reminders, they're redundant and there's no use for them, they're left over from the days before PVR's like it's a stone cold fact, whilst ignoring other people's opinions that reminders STILL make a nice addition that still have a use.

I don't see how setting a recording is going to help me remember something is on TV. Sure it might help me catch up when I eventually remember it, but how in the hell is a little red light turning on on the front of the box going to tell me that the TV show I wanted to watch that started tonight that I set a recording for a week ago has just started? Instead I'm going to forget all about it, go to work the next day, and have people banging on about said show giving me plenty of spoilers.

If you don't use reminders then fine, don't. But stop going on like spoilers are redundant for everyone just because you don't have a use for them. Like you said, it's your OPINION, stop going on like it's actually fact that they only exist in legacy boxes. Plenty of new boxes have reminders, for good reason, people like to watch live tv, and no matter how many times you repeat your *opinion* that we'd all be better off recording things doesn't change the fact that a great many of us LIKE reminders.

Choice is king in this business.

Indeed. I am trying to understand your reasoning but I really just don't get it. Perhaps it's because I just cannot imagine going back to pre-2002; which was the last time I had to be ready to watch any given programme at the time the broadcaster had decided to show it.

And yes, I know that sporting events should be watched live, and I completely agree. However, I would still watch on a small delay, just so I could FF through an un-interesting bit if I wanted to

Really?

Its simple why people want them, if others dont fair enough. I understand why people wont use them.
Surely you must see why people use them?

I realise most people on this thread now have the 1tb version, so wouldn't have receveived this email.

It would be nice if they could cut out the activation fee, as it I can't afford the 1tb version of the box, so anything to help in todays current climate would be a bonus.

"Thanks again for entering our prize draw to win one of our amazing TiVo® boxes. We know you didn't manage to get a free box this time round, but we've got something up our sleeves that we think you'll like.

We're busy rustling up an offer just for you, based on our 500GB TiVo box. It holds around 250 hours of standard TV, and we're launching it in May.

So, keep your eyes peeled for our exclusive offer. We'll pop it in the post for you soon, with a unique offer code that you'll need to quote.

While you're waiting, take another look at all the amazing things that Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo can do".
I got this email today, the interesting thing I tried to cancel my interest in the 1TB Tivo box from the original email about the entering of the prize draw that I receive (to no avail). I thought that I was getting an installation date email for this box with the special offer free install.

Now they are trying to offer me the 500GB Tivo box because I failed in the draw curious, Personally I am waiting for Tivo to become the standard replacement PVR for Virgin

True, but when did I ever make any derogatory comments about their POV being different to mine?

And how is a reminder going to? At least if you set a recording you know it's going to be there when you do finally remember you want to watch it.

If all a reminder does is change the channel for you, how is that any help?

A fair point; but if you don't remember something's on when you've set a reminder then you've completely missed it anyway haven't you?

There's no difference between setting a reminder for something and setting it to record except that, with the latter, you don't miss the programme if you forget you set a reminder

I agree. But common courtesy dictates that you don't call someone's opposing POV "utter nonsense" just because you disagree with it.

Yes, but that was only used when I was not in to watch stuff because you could only watch something after it had been completely recorded.
