You see. That's completely alien to me now. I watch what I want when I want (assuming it's already been broadcast of course )
I stopped watching TV by schedule way back in 2002 when I got my S1 Tivo. I think that's my (and others!) main point.

I most certainly do; even if it's only by enough time to be able to skip the ads! I don't mean you should watch the footy so delayed that you find out the final score before you've finished watching it. Even 5 mins is "timeshifted".

as for the example of the 6PM news as a reminder, we have to switch to SD to view the local news after HD. With no reminders on TIVO currently we are going to have to record two programmes, rather than a single reminder
We want TIVO for the storeage space and recommendations
The lack of reminders and red button are the two things that are currently missing from TIVO
|
We do that very often.

Never used reminders, have to agree with Carl, with three tuners why do you need to be told when to watch a show !
|
I just hate watching live sport via a recording after all when you watch the result has already happened.!
I will very often as others have said watch another channel whilst waiting for sport to start letting the v+ do the reminding, as paying customers some will find it useful others will not, i am in the useful camp either way supplying the feature means customers can choose to use it or not if the feature is not there custmers have very little choice.

Its only used by people as they were used to using it since the days before VM had a PVR and still think they need it, when they really don't.
What I meant was that you will always know the news is on at 6 so a reminder just seems silly for that if you know you want to see it. Then again you could just go to the BBC News channel and watch the news at any time of the day.

It does not spin down but that is not the issue, I have put my ear right next to the box and cannot hear a noise, it is that quiet so if you had a noisy V+ it is just what you need.
Yes there are several features missing relative to the V+ (but many more new features and benefits) or bugs but this is relative. I've posted a few issues myself but overall feel I have made the right decision to get one.

Carl maybe you should write to TIVO, they would find someone like you useful in their PR department. All sport has to be live for me , my friends would be texting me taking the Mick and I hadn't seen the incident.

Of course it's ready. Yes, it's not emtirely bug-free but it's still perfectly useable.
Yes, the hdd is always working, buffering* the three tuners.

Just had tivo installed today. No problems. BUT how do I get rid of the annoying beep when pressing a button on the remote control.

The buffers buffer 24/7. I just turned everything off in the room so it was completely silent, it was not until I opened my cabinet and put my head into it that I could hear any noise what so ever, and then that noise was the HDD heads seeking (not the drives spinning). Unless it was kept on your bedside table or you used it as a pillow you would never hear it.

With the amount of ads on Sky, trust me you soon catch up.
I'm only talking about 10-15 mins delay on the cricket.
Football I watch live, but I do remember what time the kick off is without a reminder. Although watching my beloved Chelsea this season, there are times I wish I had forgotten.

Nah. They're good enough without me. VM just need to re-make some of these ads for the UK
http://www.virginmediainfo.co.uk/tivo/
Compare them with the one at the bottom, which was the original UK ad for the product. What a waste of time that was

It isn't an annoying beep. Its the sound of TiVo
Go to settings and you can change the volume or turn the sounds off.
I personally love the bloop bloop noises of TiVo

It wasnt just a reminder. If im watching somethine between 05.30-06.30 and just want to watch the news headlines. I dont have a clock near the tv. It was extremely useful to it.
All your doing is thinking of reasons we shouldnt have it on a Tivo.
Why shouldnt we have it? If it was included, i would use it, you wouldnt.
End of problem. Whats the advantages of NOT including the option?
