Dont tell people what they need.

Not much use if I want to watch live AND TiVo epg doesn't even show what time the program starts......
Why would I want to record everything, some programs I want to watch live, others from recording to skip adds etc.
Sometimes I even want to watch a live program because it is live ie the news, sport, question time, even some people want to watch Corrie etc as soon as it airs.......

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Can a VM staffer please explain what the criteria is for getting a call for the free multi-room offer when upgrading to TiVo?
TiVo installed today, but missed a call from VM yesterday which I hope was going to give me the offer. They didn't call back. When I called to confirm my installation time (glad I did - it was actually a different slot to the one told to me) the CS person told me abotu the offer and gave me a number to ring. I rang it and was passed from person to person saying no offer existed.
Interested to hear to logic behind it and what I can do now. Feel like I missed out on what other people are getting offered...

Totally agree. I've lived life the TiVo way for almost a week now and I still miss my reminders for 'live' events like the news. If we had reminders then people could choose to use them or not. Without them, people have no choice. VM, PLEASE bring back reminders.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
I had my box installed today - in at 8:30, out at 8:55. Nice and quick and, more imprtantly, nice and early so I have the rest of the day to play and don't have to worry about missing the doorbell!
Liking what I see so far. It is a bit of a leap from the V+ that will take a little getting used to. The only issue I have found is how to stop YouTube videos playing once you have started them without going back to the home screen but I'll keep digging.
Now over to the Harmony thread to program the remote....

Whatever I want to watch, I will set it to record. Then, if I'm "not paying attention" (or whatever) I don't miss it. You have a HUGE hard drive. Use it! Reminders are redundant with DVRs.
I'm not "getting at" anyone and I'm not "telling them what to do". I simply stating my own POV.

Carl just a quick piont if i was say going to watch a cricket match live on say sky sports, why would i want to record the first few overs then after having watched the rest of the match live go back and watch the recorded beginning.
The reminder function is used very often on my v+ and is very useful indeed if you are prone to forget exact starting times it switches for you.

Says who? You?
You really shouldn't been telling other people what they don't need from their PVR, especially when their legacy PVR supported that functionalty.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
Reminders are totally not needed at all anymore. They are an old and redundant feature from the days before people had PVRs.
Before the V+ was around reminders were the only way to ensure you didn't miss a programme. Now we have multiple tuners and a large hard drive they really aren't needed. Also if its a show or event that you really want to see you shouldn't be forgetting about it just before it starts
If you desperately need a reminder that the news is on at 6 then there is something wrong :P its on that time everyday lol. However you could always set an alarm or calender reminder on your mobile phone?
